Shenault Press Conference Quotes

Colorado Athletic Director Rick George
On Laviska Shenault Jr. Declaring For The NFL Draft
"I spoke to coach (Mel) Tucker earlier. He would really like to be here to sit here next to Laviska for his announcement but he put me here because the first announcement I have is that Laviska has hired me to be his agent. (laughs) I will be leaving Colorado as well. He didn't know that. This is an exciting day for Laviska. He is a special young man. As good as he is on the field, he is an even better person. He has represented Colorado in an incredible way. The memories that he gave our fans the last three years have been significant. He has worked his entire life, I would say, to get to this point. I am proud of him. I am happy for him. I wish him the best. I don't watch a lot of NFL football but I know I will be watching this guy every Sunday for a long time in what I hope is a great career for him."

On Shenault's Future
"I have watched a lot of football, particularly at Colorado, around the country and there are very few people that have the athleticism, size, ability, and entire package. I think Laviska is going to have a great career. He had a great career at Colorado and I have every expectation that he is going to excel at the next level because he works at it. He is a hard worker. He has the right ethics. He is a great young man. I think his best days are ahead of him. We are proud that he was here the past three years and the way he elevated the stature of our program was significant. We are going to miss him but we are also going to make sure he comes back and visits us here and there."

On When He Knew The NFL Could Be A Possibility
"I think it gradually happened for sure. I think it was probably when I was on JV and was doing scout team for varsity [at DeSoto]. I would do the scout team and people on varsity would tell me, 'You are going to be great one day. You're going to be great.' From that point on I just kept working and here I am now."
Â
On The Decision To Declare For The NFL Draft
"I just wanted to make a smart decision for myself and for my family. I think this was the right thing to do. I felt comfortable doing it. I think I am one of the best players in the draft coming up. I'll take my chances."
Â
On Who He Talked To During This Process
"I talked to everybody that was involved. I talked to coach Tucker of course. I talked to my mom. I didn't really talk to a lot of people about it. They thought I should do the same."
Â
On What Being At CU Did For Him
"It did a lot for me. Before I came to college, I wasn't really an outgoing, loud, or outspoken person really. I think it just made me wiser, made me more outgoing, and made me live better in a way."
Â
On A Moment That Stands Out In His CU Career
"I think the best memory was probably this year when I scored against USC and hugged Rick George. That is probably legendary. You have probably never seen that before. That was definitely a good moment."
Â
On What He Remembers About The First Time He Touched The Ball At CU
"Touchdown. That is definitely a very special moment. I was looking at that video and I was smiling that whole time. I was smiling the whole time. It definitely meant a lot to me."
Â
On What He Wants To Show Teams In The Pre-Draft Process
"I want to show the scouts that I can do anything that you ask. I can check every box. I can basically do anything that they ask. I don't have a lot to say about that but I feel like I can do whatever the task is and I can get the job done in a great way."
Â
On Leaving CU With His Brother Vontae Still Here
"It is definitely good. He gets to live up to not only my name but to that Shenault on the back. He is going to be a great player too, especially when he locks in mentally and understands that there is something big on the other side. I can't wait to see what he's got planned."
Â
On What His Dad Would Think Of His Decision To Declare For The Draft
"I think he would be proud of me. He would most likely think that I deserved it, for sure. The whole journey was tough and that was the main thing I grew up on was to be tough."
Â
On His Family's Reaction To Him Declaring For The Draft
"They all were excited. I am in a group chat with all of them. They were all sending these memes and GIFs. It was kind of funny."
Â
On The Impact Mel Tucker Had On Him
"I think he had a big impact on me as far as becoming a better person in general. He brought the attitude just like DeSoto coaches did. I was familiar with what he brought already."
Â
On The State Of Colorado Football
"I think the future is very bright. Like I said, that (Tucker) is a very good coach. If you want to get good coaching and put good work in, this is definitely somewhere to be."
Â
On Where He Would Like To Be Drafted
"It don't matter. It don't matter where I go. The Dolphins would be cool."
