Golfers Finish Seventh In Wyoming's Desert Intercollegiate

O'Loughlin Ties For Fifth Individually
PALM DESERT, Calif. — The University of Colorado men's golf team stands in sixth place through 36 holes of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, as the second round was completed here Saturday.
No. 18 Texas Tech took sole possession of first place with a 4-under team score of 572, with No. 81 Boise State two back at 574 and No. 51 TCU in third (575). No. 39 Kansas and No. 47 Colorado State are tied for fourth with 12-over 588 totals.
The Buffaloes, tied for fifth after the first 18 holes, dropped one spot into sixth despite shaving four strokes off its daily score. CU turned in a 5-over 293 Saturday for a 14-over 590 overall score, closing strong a second straight day as the four players who accounted for the team total were 4-under par the last five holes.
Junior Daniel O'Loughlin continued to lead the Buffalo attack here, fashioning a 4-under par 68 for a 5-under 139 total that has him tied for second. Cruising along at 1-under through 15 holes on the 7,305-yard, par-72 Classic Club course, he finished with three straight birdies to record one of just seven scores in the 60s on Saturday. He's played the par-4s extremely well here at 2-under par, tied for second-best in the 120-man field as he is just one of three players to be in red numbers. O'Loughlin is also eight in par-5 scoring (4-under) and is tied for the second-most birdies with 10, six of which he scored in round two.
Junior Ross Macdonald is tied for 35th after firing a 3-over 75; he has a 5-over 149 total heading into the final round. He had three birdies, 10 pars, four bogeys and a double, closing with two of those birds over his last six holes to get down to plus-three on the day.
Sophomore Trevor Olkowski and freshman Kristoffer Max are tied for 52nd, as they matched each other for the second straight day, this time with 3-over 75s that have the duo in at 7-over 151. While their 76s on Friday were attained anywhere but near the same, their second time around the Classics track were very similar.
Olkowski had two birdies and 12 pars against three bogeys and a double, while Max had a birdie, 13 pars and four bogeys. Max bogeyed his final two holes while Olkowski bogeyed No. 16 that led to the duo posting identical scores once again. Max has played the eight par-3s here even, tied for 11th in the field.
Freshman John Paterson struggled to a 10-over 82, his high score of the year, as he is tied for 100th with a 15-over 159 total. He managed two birdies and eight pars, but unlike his Friday round when he kept things close to par, he had two doubles and a triple that accounted for the bulk of his strokes over par. He had birdied No. 14 to get down to 4-over on the day, but played the last four holes at 6-over.
Three other players are competing here for the Buffaloes as individuals, meaning their scores do not count toward CU's team total (a total of 15 players in the field are). Sophomore Cole Krantz turned in a second straight 5-over 77 to stand at 10-over 154, which has him tied for 72nd. Junior Andre Leveque is one back at 11-over 155 after firing a 75 and is tied for 77th, while junior Victor Bjorlow shot an 8-over 80 for a 14-over 158, tying him for 95th.
Leveque had the most consistent round of the three, with four birdies, the second-most by a Buff in the second round, with seven pars and seven bogeys. Krantz and Bjorlow both had triple bogeys that inflated their scores.
"Scores were all over the board today for everyone," CU head coach Roy Edwards said. "Daniel had a really good round with a really strong finish. He birdied No. 16 which is playing as the toughest hole in the tournament, and then birdied the next two and was the only player to close his round with three. Several of the guys really hung in there despite not playing their best. Bottom line is that our guys kept fighting and that is very encouraging. We feel good about tomorrow."
Boise State's Skyler Eubank carded a second straight 68 to maintain his individual lead, in at 8-under par 136 through 36 holes. Two others are tied with O'Loughlin trying to chase him down, TCU's David Ravetto and Texas Tech's Adam Blomme.
The third and final round is scheduled for Sunday morning; the Buffs will be paired with Kansas, Texas-Arlington nd San Francisco and will tee off starting at 8:50 a.m. MST. NOTES: Tee times were delayed 30 minutes Saturday due to frost on the course as overnight temperatures dipped into the upper 30s … Saturday's average score for the field was 75.59, down from 76.72 for the first round Friday; it's 76.15 for both rounds combined … There are just seven players under par with three others even, meaning 110 of the 120 players are over par on a Classics Course that is usually fairly user-friendly … Through two rounds, Colorado is fourth in par-5 scoring (10-under), eighth in par-4 scoring (31-over) and ninth in par-3 scoring (plus-8) … CU's designated scorers have 32 birdies (fifth) and 99 pars (10th).
