Buffs Announce Spring Schedule
March 11, 2019 | Volleyball
Open spring competition at Denver Saturday
BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's volleyball team will play four matches against in-state schools this spring, kicking things off with a match at Denver this Saturday at 3 p.m.
Colorado will play only the one match in March, then return in April with three home matches against Colorado State April 4th at 6:30 p.m., Denver on April 12th at 5 p.m. and Northern Colorado on April 19 at 4:45 p.m.
The Buffaloes are returning from their second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament in the fall and finishing with an 18-14 record that included a 10-10 conference performance. Colorado picked up key wins late to push themselves into the tournament with road wins at No. 16 Oregon, UCLA and Oregon State. They also upset No.21 Washington at home and took the eventual national champion Stanford to five on the road. CU ended up being just one of three teams to take the Cardinal to five sets and the only one to do so on their court.
There will be a new look with CU graduating three seniors. The Buffs look to fill the large All-American holes that Alexa Smith and Naghede Abu left on the outside and middle, as well as look to develop depth on the right side.
The spring will also allow the freshmen class to work into large playing roles with Zoey Neverdowski and Taylor deProsse in the backrow as well as Allie Moger in the middle alongside Danielle Price. Emily DeMure and Lillie Klemmer will also work on the right and left sides this spring for CU with Jenna Ewert at setter and Rachel Whipple in the libero role. Smith will compete for the Buffs this spring in the home competitions.
CU has made many roster additions, including redshirt junior transfer Leah Clayton who will be eligible to compete for the team next spring. The Southern Conference Player of the Year will add senior leadership in 2020 with the four signed in the fall and more being added to the roster later this spring.
