Colorado Teams Top-10 in Updated Program of the Year Standings

March 12, 2019 | Cross Country, Track and Field

NEW ORLEANS – The University of Colorado track and field and cross country program has both the men and women programs ranked in the top-10 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) Program of the Year Award after the completion of the indoor championships.

The award combines the team placing of teams at the three NCAA Championships; cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. Only teams that compete and score at all three championships are eligible.

With a fourth-place finish at the cross country championships and a 16th-place finish at the indoor championships, the CU men have 20 combined points and are fourth in the running for the title. The women are ninth in the rankings after winning the title in cross country and finishing tied for 33rd for a total of 33.5 points.

Stanford leads the men's rankings with 9.5 points after a fifth-place finish at the cross country championships and a fourth-place tie indoors. Behind them with 12.5 points is Wisconsin followed by BYU with 16. Oregon leads the women's chase after placing third at both championships. Closely behind them is New Mexico with seven points and the indoor national champions Arkansas with 15.

The Colorado women finished as the runner-up to the program of the year in 2017 but were not qualified last year after not placing indoors. The men's team were 12th in the standings at the end of 2017.

Historically, Oregon has won the women's title every season except last year when Stanford took the crown. The Oregon men have five titles in the 10 year span of the award, with Alabama taking last year's title.
