Andrinopoulos and Malinen earn highest ranking in school history

TEMPE – The University of Colorado women's tennis team has three student-athletes named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, the association announced Tuesday morning.

Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Monica Malinen jumped from No.50 in the nation in doubles to 20th after a pair of top-30 upsets this past weekend. Sara Nayar returned to the rankings after upsetting another top-40 individual Friday against Cal. She is ranked 100th in the singles rankings.

This is the first time since 2010 that CU has had three individuals ranked. The last time saw a duo ranked 44th after April 13th and Monica Milewski ranked 101st. Melisa Esposito was ranked on the doubles team as well as 115th in the nation in singles play.

Andrinopoulos and Malinen had the largest jump in the ITA polls for a ranked team after upsetting the No.27 pair from Cal and the No.15 pair from Stanford this past weekend. Their ranking of 20th is the highest doubles ranking in school history during competition. The only pair ever ranked higher were the duo of Marshall and Myers who were ranked 10th in the preseason polls in 1988 but never were ranked after that.

Nayar also joins exclusive company with her ranking. She is the first player ranked 100 or better in school history in April since Milewski was ranked 59th in the nation in 2010 after the April 27 ranking. In total there have only been three individuals ranked 100 or better in April for CU, with the first being Sandra Fischer in 1996.

The Buffaloes close out the regular season this Saturday in Utah at 11 a.m.
