Buffs Move to 11th After Second Round At The Pac-12 Championship
April 16, 2019 | Women's Golf
PALOS VERDES, Calif. — After two rounds at the Pac-12 Women's Golf Championship, the University of Colorado is 11th. The Buffaloes finished action on Tuesday with a 52-over 620. They recorded a 27-over 311 on the second day following a 25-over 309 on Monday.
Â
"It was a tough day for us on the greens, especially," head coach Anne Kelly said. "Overall we have to be better speed putters. Ball striking is pretty good, but shots around the green and putting needs to be better. The team is dissatisfied with our play and is very determined to play better tomorrow. Kirsty was the bright spot today and had a good stretch of holes on the first nine but the second nine, which is the front nine, is difficult for us. Hopefully we can get something going tomorrow."
Â
The top three teams in the tournament did not change from the first to second rounds with Southern California, Stanford and Arizona first, second and third, respectively. USC is currently 1-over (569), while Stanford is 8-over (576) and Arizona is 14-over (282). Arizona State and UCLA are tied for fourth as each is 18-over 586 through the first 36-holes at the 6,131-yard, Par 71 Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Â
Junior Kirsty Hodgkins continues to be the leader for the Buffs as she moved up 10 spots from the first round to the second round and is currently tied for 15th. She shot a 3-over 75 on the first day and today earned a 1-over 72. Her day got off to an excellent start as she shot a 3-under 33 on the back nine, which included four straight birdies. She also made four pars and one bogey. The front nine was not bad, but a 4-over 39 put her at 1-under for the day. In total, she had nine pars, four birdies and five bogeys for the round.
Â
Senior Gillian Vance and freshman Malak Bouraeda are tied for 44th as both have recorded a 14-over 156. Vance, who was 36th after recording a 6-over 77 on the first day, shot an 8-over 79 on Tuesday to total 156. Bouraeda, who was 40th after Monday, shot a pair of 7-over 78s. She did have a nice start on the back nine with three birdies, helping her to a 1-over 37; but the front nine gave her a little trouble as was a 6-over through the nine holes.
Â
Freshman Kelsey Webster had a tough day and is currently 53rd with a 20-over 162. She was 4-over through her first nine, but an 8-over in the second nine, which included three double bogeys, saw her move nine spots down the standings. Sophomore Elle Otten had a better round than on Monday, improving by three strokes. She was 11-over (83) on Tuesday after earning a 14-over 85 on Monday. Â
Â
Stanford's Albane Valenzuela continues to lead the field. After a strong first day shooting 6-under, she recorded a 1-under 70 and owns a 7-under 135. She has a 4-stroke lead over Arizona State's Olivia Mehaffey, who is currently 3-under 139 after rounds of 69 and 70.

The final round will being at 8:30 a.m. PT, Wednesday, April 17.
