Hodgkins Selected to NCAA Regional

The CU junior heads to East Lansing, Mich.

BOULDER – Colorado women's golfer Kirsty Hodgkins was one of 24 individuals selected to the 2019 NCAA Regionals on Wednesday. Hodgkins will represent CU at the East Lansing Regional, hosted by the Michigan State University.

It will be Hodgkins' third NCAA Regional appearance. Colorado qualified as a team the past five seasons. The Buffs competed in the Columbus Regional in 2017 and the San Francisco Regional in 2018.

Hodgkins becomes the first Colorado golfer selected as an individual since Jenny Coleman in 2013.

"I am very excited," Hodgkins exclaimed. "It will be weird not going as a team but I'm very excited that I get to represent Colorado and we can still make a name for ourselves."

The East Lansing Regional will be played May 6-8, at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.

"I'm very happy for Kirsty that she was able to qualify as an individual," head coach Anne Kelly added. "I think she is about ready to start playing some great golf, so it will be exciting to see how she does.

"I'm disappointed we didn't qualify as a team and I know the team is disappointed as well. Hopefully, this is a good motivator for the team to work hard over the summer and come back ready to go next year. It is a frustrating feeling to be on the outside looking in."

Hodgkins was CU's top-finisher at last week's Pac-12 Championship. She carded a three-round 224 (75-72-77), closing tied for 26th. Hodgkins is ranked 111th in the latest GolfStat rankings and 112th by Golfweek.

The Queensland, Australia, native, shot an even-216 in last year's San Francisco Regional, helping Colorado advance to its second NCAA Championship.

"Freshman year we headed out to Ohio State and that was a tough golf course," Hodgkins recalled. "We had tough weather conditions and I feel like that is what we are going to get out in Michigan. Last year in San Francisco it was cold and wet for a couple of the days and that was a long golf course. I think having those two regionals under my belt will definitely help."

Each regional site consists of 18 teams and six individuals. The top six teams and three individuals from non-qualifying teams advance to the national championships. The NCAA Women's Golf Championships will be May 17-22 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas hosted by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The final three days of the championships will be televised live by the Golf Channel.
