Buffaloes Finish Sixth In Tucson

February 10, 2026 | Women's Golf

TUCSON, Ariz. – Colorado women's golf put together its best two rounds of the early spring season to finish sixth in a competitive field at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Tucson Country Club.

The No. 48-ranked Buffaloes finished at 28-over-par for the 54-hole tournament, but played 8-over between the second and third rounds. After shooting 20-over in Monday's first round, Colorado bounced back to play even in the second round, which was completed early Tuesday, and proceeded to shoot 8-over in the third round.

Colorado's 8-over stretch in the final two rounds proved to be the second-best in the field. Only top-ranked Stanford, which ran away with the team title by a whopping 35 strokes, had a better final 36 holes. The Cardinal were the only team to finish in the red for the entire tournament, finishing at 15-under. No. 21 Baylor was a distant second at 19-over, one shot better than host and No. 22-ranked Arizona at 20-over.

"Really proud of how the team competed today," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "It wasn't easy out there, but they definitely fought until the very last putt dropped. I think having the second-lowest single round of the tournament and the second-best rounds two and three says a lot about what this group is capable of. All five individuals had bright spots to celebrate this week in their games."

The day started with Carolyn Fuller and Teemapat Pateetin needing to finish their second rounds with one hole each as Monday's play was suspended due to darkness. Fuller birdied the 407-yard par-4 11th to finish with a 68, her fourth round in the 60s this season. Pateetin closed out with a 74 as the Buffaloes officially held the fifth spot after two with their even par team round.

Colorado stayed with a tightly-crammed group on the day, with six teams, all from the Big 12 Conference, going back and forth between second and seventh place, with all eventually ending within 10 shots of each other. No. 47 Texas Tech ended up having the best final round of that group at 2-over, allowing the Red Raiders jump from sixth to fourth. No. 75 BYU had the highest round of the group at 13-over, but managed to hold off the Buffaloes for fifth at 26-over. Colorado was able to edge No. 18 Arizona State by one stroke as the Sun Devils finished in seventh.

Pateetin had Colorado's best third round as she shot a 1-under, 71, the fourth sub-par round of her career. It was a great comeback by the freshman playing in her first tournament of the spring. She struggled in the first round at 9-over, but bounced back with her 74 in the second. Pateetin kept that momentum going in the third round, highlighted by six birdies on her way to a tie for 27th overall at 10-over.

"Teem did an awesome job in the final 36 holes," Sheils said. "We know the sky is the limit for her."

Sophomore Ellen O'Shaughnessy was Colorado's low 54-hole scorer for the second-straight event at 4-over. After an even-par second round, O'Shaughnessy shot a 73 on Tuesday as she matched her best tournament finish of the season, tying for 13th overall.

O'Shaughnessy was at 3-over through nine, but registered her third eagle of the season on the 513-yard first. She gave those two shots back however on the next hole, but made birdie on back-to-back holes at the fourth and fifth to clinch her fourth top 20 finish of the season.

"I'm thrilled for Ellen earning back-to-back top 15s," Sheils said. "She is really playing at a high level right now, and I'm so happy to see her hard work paying off."

Fuller finished just outside the top 20, tying for 21st at 6-over. After a good start to her third round, playing her first seven holes at 1-under, she hit a tough stretch on the course's front nine, dropping seven strokes on a seven-hole stretch. She regrouped over the final six holes, playing at 1-under, highlighted by a birdie on the 125-yard par-3 eighth to finish with a 77.

Vanessa Ngo tied for 32nd at 12-over. She had her best of three rounds during Tuesday's final session with a 75. Maya McVey tied for 42nd at 15-over after a 77 in the final round.

Stanford's Andrea Revuelta, playing as an individual, took medalist honors at 11-under, four shots better than her teammate Paula Martin Sampedro, who was second at 7-under.

Colorado will return to action in two weeks at the Causeway Invitational, Feb. 23-24, at the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, Calif.
