May 07, 2019 | Tennis

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Colorado women's tennis team freshman Sara Nayar was named an honorable mention for the 2019 Pac-12 All-Conference team.

Nayar had eight wins for the Buffs at the No.1 position this season, including three against nationally-ranked opponents. She was a key to CU's win against No.28 Washington State at home when she upset a top-40 player and led the team to a 4-3 overall win. She finished the season with a 13-9 overall singles record.

Nayar becomes the fourth CU player to be named a Pac-12 All-Conference selection. Carla Manzi Tenorio was a two-time second team selection along with teammate Julyette Steur. Steur also became the first-ever first team selection in 2015 for her third total selection. Most recently Nuria Ormeno Ruiz was named honorable mention in 2016 and second team in 2017.

The freshman finished the season ranked 101st in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. She ranked as high as 89th this season.
