Colorado moves to 2-0 on foreign tour
ST. DENIS, France — A night after taking in the United States Women's National team's record-setting World Cup victory the University of Colorado soccer team returned to action in France.
The Buffaloes made a bit of history as well on Wednesday, becoming the first American team to play St. Denis RC. Colorado improved to 2-0 on the trip, with a 5-0 verdict.
Senior Jalen Tompkins kept the slate clean for the second consecutive match. She was more involved on Wednesday having to make three saves on the night.
Seniors Taylor Kornieck and Tatum Barton both notched two goals, a sight not unfamiliar to the Buffs. Camilla Shymka also added her first goal of the trip.
Colorado's first goal came in the 14th minute when Stephanie Zuniga chipped a ball up and over a defender and straight on the head of Kornieck. Shymka gave the Buffs a 2-0 lead right before the first half whistle, capitalizing on an Emily Groark corner kick.
Kornieck picked up her second of the night after forcing a handball inside the box. She easily slipped the penalty kick past the St. Denis keeper for the 3-0 advantage.
Barton tallied the final two goals in the 67th and 89th minute.
Before the match, the team spent the afternoon touring Versailles. The Buffs got to experience the thrill of a Paris rush hour, sitting in traffic for an extended time on the ride back to the team hotel.
Colorado transitions to Montpellier on Thursday and will attend Brazil vs. Australia World Cup match Thursday night.
CU will play its third and final match on Saturday.
