Colorado closes with a 3-0 win on Saturday
SAINT CYPRIEN, France — The Colorado soccer team closed out its 2019 foreign tour with a 3-0 win over FC Saint. Cyprien on Saturday.
The Buffaloes improved to 6-0 in international play across their last two foreign trips. CU did not allow a goal in France, outscoring opponents 19-0.
Senior Tatum Barton scored a brace and sophomore Emily Groark closed the evening out with her second goal of the tour.
Saturday's finale was the most tightly contested of the three matches. It took both sides a few minutes to size each other up in the opening minutes. It was Saint Cyprien that broke the ice, putting the first ball on net in the 8th minute.
CU's first opportunity came in the 12th minute when senior Camilla Shymka put a one-touch volley just wide. The Buffs continued to put the pressure on with Tatum Barton sending a shot wide moments later.
Barton picked up her two goals within two minutes of each other. Her first came in the 22nd minute when she bounced on a rebound and beat the keeper on the left side. She added her second in the 24th minute off a set up from Groark.
Colorado did all its scoring in the first half. Freshman Kyla Ferry put a quality ball on net and Groark was there to finish it off in the 40th minute. The Buffs had a late look to add a fourth goal before the end of the half when Tessa Barton rocketed a shot that was tipped high over the net.
The Buffs made a pit stop on the way to the match, stopping off at beach in Saint Cyprien before heading to the stadium.Â
Saturday's match was the most attended of the three. Colorado has had a dedicated group of supporters at all three matches but the local Saint Cyprien supporters came out in impressive numbers.
