September 11, 2000 | Soccer

BOULDER - Sara Erskine, a sophomore goalkeeper for the University of Colorado women's soccer team, was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday.

The native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., was stellar in her second career start, pulling in a career-high 11 saves in the first win of the season for Colorado, a 1-0 shutout of Cornell University on September 8. The shutout was the first of Erskine's career, as well as Colorado's first of the year.

"Sara Erskine was outstanding," remarked CU head coach Austin Daniels following last Friday's game. "Like I have said from the beginning, we have one goalkeeper hurt, but luckily we have three great goalkeepers and Erskine stepped up today and made some big saves."

The Buffs are back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 13, when they travel down south to face instate foe Air Force at 4:00 p.m. in Colorado Springs. They will return home on Friday, Sept. 15 to face another in-state rival, Colorado College, in a 4:00 p.m. match at Pleasant View Soccer Complex. PVSC is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Foothills Parkway and the Diagonal Highway in Boulder. Admission and parking are free at Colorado soccer games.
