BOULDER, Colo. - Dang Pibulvech, the fonner head coach at the University of Texas, has been hired as the assistant coach for the University of Colorado women's soccer team announced head coach Austin Daniels on Wednesday. He replaces Kim LeMere, who after two seasons, resigned July 31.
"I am very excited to have Dang on our staff," said head coach Austin Daniels. "He has had a great deal of experience and success at the Division I level, and I am certain he will have a tremendous impact on our team this season. He has excellent knowledge of the game of soccer, and has a great deal to offer our team."
Pibulvech, a collegiate head coach for over 15 years, compiled a record of 40-50-7 during his five-year tenure at the University of Texas where he was the program's founding coach. The Longhorns reached the Big 12 postseason tournament from 1996-99, and were also ranked in the NSCAA National Poll in both 1996 and 1997. He has coached 25 Division I all-Americans, as well as several players who have earned caps with the United States National Team.
He started his career as the head coach at Central Methodist, then moved on to assist at Central Florida on both the men's side and women's side. He then went on to Colorado College, where he spent eight years as the head coach, leading the team to five Division I Final Four appearances. He then left CC for the University of Washington, where he spent three years before leaving for Texas in 1994.
Daniels' coaching relationship with Pibulvech stretches back to 1986 at Colorado College, when Daniels had his first collegiate coaching position as an assistant under Pibulvech for three years. Daniels then left for the University of Hartford in 1988.
Pibulvech, 44, has been honored as both the Central and Western Region Coach of the Year by the NSCAA, as well as serving as the U.S. National Team assistant coach at the 1991 Olympic Festival Games as well as the Pre-World Championship European Tour, also in 1991.
He is a graduate of Columbia College, where he lettered in soccer for four years under coach Dennis Oberg, reaching the collegiate regional finals three of those years. He is married (Patrise) and has four children, Allana (20), Kaila (18), Leisha (17), and Kaleina (5). The appointment is subject to the approval of the University's Board of Regents, with the next meeting scheduled in September.
The Buffs open the 1999 season on Fri., Aug. 27 at the University of Kansas and Sun. Aug. 29 at the University of Missouri. The first homestand of the 1999 season will kickoff on Fri., Sept. 3 against Alabama-Birmingham at 4:00 at Pleasant View Soccer Complex.
