Buffaloes Host Tough Final Non-Conference Pair

February 26, 2020 | Tennis

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's tennis program hosts No.34-ranked Denver and Minnesota for the final set of non-conference opponents, beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center with the match against the Pioneers.

The Buffaloes (7-3) have won two matches in a row with a road match against Iowa and a home win against Wyoming. They will have a battle on their hands when Denver (7-4) comes to town. The Pioneers swept Air Force to open the season but were swept by No.43 Washington State. The team is on a two-match slide with losses to BYU and No.45 Utah. Denver has one individual, Taylor Melville, ranked at 103 in singles.

Minnesota (10-2) will be another difficult opponent Sunday, March 1, at 11 a.m. The Gophers have played eight-straight home matches, winning them all including a 4-1 defeat of Iowa. Minnesota's two losses are to No.4 UCLA and Utah.

Colorado is ramping up its squad with the comeback of Sara Nayar. The sophomore has been working back into form from injury and had a dominating win against Wyoming in a 6-1, 6-1 fashion. With freshmen Antonia Balzert and Sophia Derivan continuing to lead the team in wins in the No.2 and No.4 spots, the addition of Nayar makes Colorado very dangerous top to bottom.

CU enters Pac-12 play with a trip to Washington March 6 against Washington State and in Seattle against Washington March 8th.
