Top Performances Countdown: Rudy Ties School Record In Win Over Coastal Carolina
April 20, 2020 | Lacrosse
It was a very odd lacrosse season, no doubt. CU's lacrosse team welcomed non-conference opponent Coastal Carolina to Boulder on March 8, just two days after the Pac-12 opener against Oregon. It was Game 5 of a scheduled 16 regular-season games. No one envisioned the early-season matchup would end up being the season finale, but Charlie Rudy and the Buffs at least made the most of it and ensured another above-.500 season for the program.
Rudy tied a CU record with eight goals and added an assist in a 19-8 rout of CCU, the second straight win for the Buffs. Her performance earns No. 8 on our countdown of top performances from 2019-20.
Rudy scored four goals in the first eight minutes of the game, giving CU a 4-1 lead it would not relinquish. She added another later in the first half and the Buffs entered halftime ahead 10-5.
She scored her sixth of the contest just 45 seconds into the second half, surpassing her previous career high of five goals. But she wasn't done. She later added back-to-back goals for a 14-6 lead at the 15:12 mark, tying Miranda Stinson's school record of eight goals set a year ago.
"For Charlie to step up for us on offense today was big with the way we were playing," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said after the game. "I thought she did a good job from the beginning, being aggressive, taking good opportunities, and finishing."
With the remainder of the season being canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Rudy's efforts helped the Buffs finish the year 3-2 overall, the seventh straight winning season in the seventh year of the program.
For Rudy, she finished the season leading Colorado in goals (20), points (24), shots (37) and shots on goal (32).
