Top Performances Countdown: Knight's Double-Double Lifts WBB To 10-0 Start

April 09, 2020 | Women's Basketball

CU's women's basketball team was 9-0 heading into a holiday tournament in New Orleans against UAB, but had to crawl back from a seven-point halftime deficit to win in overtime. Redshirt sophomore Aubrey Knight's career highs in points (24) and rebounds (13) gave the Buffs the boost they needed for a 77-69 win and a 10-0 record.

Her efforts on Dec. 20 earn the No. 19 spot in our top performances of 2019-20 list.

Knight missed the final few games of her freshman season in 2017-18 with a shoulder injury. After offseason surgery, she reinjured it early in the 2018-19 season and missed all but three early-season contests.

A starter for the majority of her freshman season, she made just two starts in the first nine games this past season. Knight returned to the starting lineup against UAB after an injury to a teammate and she responded to her new role.

She hit big shots all day, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers during a comeback in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, she provided five points, including two key free throws in the closing seconds to force overtime.

In the extra period, Knight had six points, including two free throws that tied the game at 69-69. The Blazers never scored again after that and two more baskets from Knight helped seal the win. She finished the game 8-for-11 shooting and 5-for-5 at the free throw line.

For the season, she was one of the most consistent players for the Buffs. Knight averaged 7.5 points and 6.2 rebounds (second on the team), making eight starts in 30 games. She also shot 46 percent from the floor.
