What You Need To Know: Buffs Vs. Beavers

November 06, 2021 | Football, Neill Woelk

COLORADO BUFFALOES (2-6, 1-4 Pac-12)

vs. OREGON STATE BEAVERS (5-3, 3-2)

KICKOFF: 5:10 p.m., Folsom Field (50,183)

TV, RADIO: The game will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks with Ted Robinson (play-by-play) and Yogi Roth (color). The radio broadcast will be carried by KOA (850 AM, 94.1 FM) with Voice of the Buffs Mark Johnson and Gary Barnett in the booth and Andy Lindahl on the sidelines. KOA's coverage begins at 3 p.m. with the pregame show.

ON THE INTERNET: The game can be heard on the internet at CUBuffs.com, and www.850koa.com in the Denver-Boulder metro area. Live statistics will also be available at CUBuffs.com.

THE COACHES: Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell is in his second year at the Buffs' helm. Last year's Pac-12 Coach of the Year, Dorrell is 6-8 at CU and 41-35 overall as a head coach. Jonathan Smith is in his fourth year at OSU, where he is 14-25.

THE SERIES: Oregon State holds a 6-5 all-time advantage, with the series tied at 3-3 in Boulder. The Beavers won the last meeting between the two teams, 41-34 in overtime in 2018, as OSU rallied from a 31-3 deficit to shock the Buffaloes.

WHAT'S AT STAKE: The Buffs need a win to remain mathematically alive for a postseason berth. The Beavers can't afford another loss if they want to remain in the hunt for a Pac-12 North title.

LAST OUTING: The Buffs lost at Oregon last week, 52-29. The Beavers dropped a 39-25 decision at Cal.

TEAM LEADERS: Buffs wide receiver Brenden Rice is coming off a solid performance against Oregon, when he caught five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Rice leads the Buffs with 17 catches for 280 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Jarek Broussard leads Colorado in rushing with 359 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while quarterback Brendon Lewis has thrown for 1,016 yards and seven scores.

Defensively, safeties Isaiah Lewis (54 tackles) and Mark Perry (52) have been consistent on the back end while defensive end Carson Wells has seven tackles for loss and cornerback Christian Gonzalez has five.

The Beavers are led offensively by running back B.J. Baylor, who leads the Pac-12 with 10 rushing touchdowns, and he has five 100-yard games this season.

Defensively, linebacker Avery Roberts has a conference-leading 90 tackles this year, including two games with 16 stops.

KEY MATCHUP: Buffs linebackers vs. Baylor. The Beavers' star has big-play potential, with four runs this season for 40 yards or longer. The Buffs, expected to be without star linebacker Nate Landman, have to find a way to keep Baylor in check.

UP NEXT: The Buffs hit the road next Saturday for a 7 p.m. game against UCLA at the Rose Bowl.
