Colorado To Compete In Two Meets

BOULDER – Colorado track and field will separate to a pair of meets this weekend at the Wyoming Power Meet and at the UCCS Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Open/Multi this Friday and Saturday.

The throws crew will head to Wyoming to compete Friday while the combined event women will compete in the pentathlon Friday at UCCS. The rest of the jumps crew will compete Friday at UCCS while John Swabik will be the lone Buff competing on Saturday in UCCS in the men's heptathlon.

The Buffaloes had a strong opening meet last week at Air Force where the women put five new marks in the CU Top-10 lists. Avery McMullen is coming off of tying a mark in the hurdles and adding herself to the indoor high jump list. She will lead four Buffs in the women's pentathlon Friday at UCCS, an event that she is fifth in CU history and on the verge of breaking the 4,000-point barrier. She will be joined by Jada Green, Kara Lucyk and Elise Gillett.

The men's squad at UCCS will feature Ryan Charles in the high jump, Nick Bianco in the pole vault and Aidan Christiansen, Noah Bouchard and Jackson Meyer in the long jump. Swabik will compete in his first heptathlon for the Buffs as the only Buff competing Saturday at UCCS.

The throws crew will head north to Wyoming to compete in the Power Invite. There are three women entered in the shot, Lauren Whyrick, Elena Opp and Obi Osafo-Mensah. All three are also entered in the weight throw along with Gya'ni Sami, Amanda Opp, Jane Powers and Bella Braun.

For the men, Lars Atkinson is the lone Buffalo competing in both the shot and weigh throw, while Tyler Sconce, Clayton Castro and Isaiah Bouchard will all compete in just the weight throw.

This will be the final weekend of competition in a long 2021 season that featured two cross country seasons, an Olympics season and an outdoor season. Colorado will return to action next year at the Potts Invitational January 14-15 in Boulder.
