Boee Wins Fifth Straight, Buffs Second In RMISA Meet
February 22, 2021 | Skiing
MIDWAY, Utah – Sophomore Magnus Boee picked up where he left off earlier in the month, picking up his fifth straight win and sixth overall as the Colorado Buffaloes Ski Team competed in classic races here at the RMISA Invitational at Westminster and Soldier Hollow Monday. Â
Boee now has six wins and a fourth place in seven races this season, putting together one of the most dominant seasons in CU history. Â He enabled the Buffs to move from third into second in the meet standings, which began Feb. 8-9 with slalom races at Snowbird Ski Area. Â CU scored 92 points in the men's race, three behind Utah, and 69 in the women's race, third most in the field, to score 161 on the day and now have 444 points with two events remaining on Tuesday. Â Utah leads with 553 points. Â Third is Denver with 384.5, followed by Montana State (369) and Alaska Anchorage rounding out the top five. Â
Freshman Oyvind Haugan finished fifth and senior Ryan Jackson eighth to give the Buffs three team scorers in the weighted portion of the points list. Â Freshman Will Koch was also impressive in 13th place, his first race since returning from competing in the World Junior Championships in Poland. Â
The women's team also placed four in the top 20, with freshman Weronika Kaleta leading the way in eighth place, followed shortly by sophomore Anna-Maria Dietze in ninth and junior Ezra Smith in 12th. Â Senior Quinn Lehmkuhl finished 18th for the Buffs. Â Utah's Novie McCabe won the race as the Utes put four in the top five ahead of the Buffs. Â
WHAT IT MEANS: The Buffs are continuing to look stronger as the season continues, which is always a good sign. Â Three in the top eight of the men's race is quite an accomplishment, as Jackson continues to look stronger as the season wears on, and Haugan is pushing more for top fives to go along with Boee's magnificent season. Â The women's team continues to place Dietze, Kaleta and Smith in the seven to 13 range as they have all season, which gives the Buffs strong contenders for the NCAA Championships. Â Haugan is in a solid fifth place on the RMISA NCAA Qualification list and Jackson could move up with a top 10 or two in freestyle races here this week. Â
UP NEXT: Nordic action continues Tuesday with the freestyle races that will close out this meet and thus the regular season, although half of the RMISA Championships are already complete on the alpine side. Â The Nordic teams remain in Utah all week and will compete in the conference championships Friday and Saturday. Â
