Colorado Falls to San Francisco

LAKEWOOD, Calif. – The University of Colorado women's tennis team fell to San Francisco here Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-1.

Colorado (7-8, 1-4 Pac-12) drops its sixth-straight match, including five against schools from California. San Francisco (7-4) picks up its seventh win of the season.

The Buffs had life in the doubles point, but after a quick 6-1 defeated in the No.3 doubles match with Chiho Mushika and Maria Martinez Vaquero defeating Maria Campos and Ky Ecton, the Buffs were on an uphill battle. Sophia Derivan and Megan Forster defeated Mya Bui and Caragh Courtney 6-4 in the No.2 doubles match, but Rita Colyer and Arianna Capogrosso defeated Sara Nayar and Fleur Eggink 7-5 to take the team point.

Moving to singles, Martinez Vaquero dropped a pair of 6-1 sets on Nayar to take the No.1 singles match quickly. Mushika followed suite against Balzert in the No.4 match with the same score. Down 3-1, Campos once against gave CU a chance by taking the No.3 match against Colyer 6-3, 6-0.

The Buffs had hope after Forster took the first set against Capogrosso 6-3 in the No.5 singles match but was down 4-1 when the match was clinched by Courtney in the No.6 match against Eggink by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Derivan also had a chance but dropped a close first set to Bui 7-5 and was tied 1-1 in the second.

CU returns home but have a tough task ahead of them with No.49 Washington and No.47 Washington State coming to Boulder Friday and Sunday, respectfully.
