Chad Wolk Named Assistant Alpine Coach At Colorado

BOULDER - Chad Wolk, a former team captain and All-American for the University of Colorado who has skied and coached for the US National Team, has returned to Boulder as the Assistant Alpine Coach, head coach Andy LeRoy announced Thursday.
Wolk replaces Stefan Hughes, who held the position for the previous four seasons.
"I am ecstatic to have Chad back at the University of Colorado and honored to be coaching alongside him this coming season," LeRoy said. "Chad was a fantastic athlete for the Buffs and has since become an even better coach and mentor to young people across the country. He returns to CU with a wealth of experience from coaching at this level and is certain to make an immediate impact on our program."
Wolk skied for former CU coach Richard Rokos from 1998-2001 and skied with LeRoy for the Buffs during the 2000 season. The two were also members of the U.S. National Team in 1996 when Wolk was on the Alpine C-Team and earned two World Cup slalom starts.

At Colorado, Wolk competed in 46 career races picking up one race win, seven podium appearances, 16 top five and 31 total top 10 finishes, earning five All-America honors including one in each of his four seasons. He helped the Buffs win back-to-back National Championships in 1998 and '99, won the team's Dick Schoenberger Award as team MVP in 2000 and the team's Buddy Werner Award in 2001.
He earned second-team All-America honors in the slalom as a freshman in 1998, then picked up a second-team honor in the GS as a sophomore in 1999. In 2000, he picked up two second-team honors and his senior season he finished second in the GS race at NCAAs to earn first-team honors. Wolk graduated from the University of Colorado in 2003 with a degree in Business Administration.
Active in coaching since leaving CU as a student-athlete, Wolk served as the Lead Traveling Coach for Buck Hill Minnesota for two years in 2004-05, was the women's FIS coach at Burke Mountain Academy in 2006 and then was the FIS coach for the Park City Ski Team for seven years from 2006-12. He then coached for the U.S. Ski Team from 2013-17, being the Head Coach for the National Training Group in 2016 when the US won three gold medals at the Youth Olympic Games and nine total medals including three golds at the U19 World Championships. He was the assistant coach for the Europa Cup in 2015, helping Team USA pick up one gold and one silver medal at the World Junior Championships.
Wolk has coached at Burke Mountain Academy the past two seasons and was the lead coach for the Elite Team postgraduate and group 1 athletes, executing all duties necessary for an elite ski racing program, including equipment acquisition, physical conditioning, video analysis, venue preparation, course setting and athlete guidance.
Originally from Dresbach, Minn., Wolk graduated from Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont before attending CU. He started back at Colorado on June 1 and will assist LeRoy in all aspects of the alpine program at CU.
