Buffs Continue Season At Air Force Invitational

BOULDER – Colorado track and field continues action at the Air Force Invitational starting Thursday with the pentathlon and continuing through Saturday.
The Buffaloes are coming off a strong indoor opening at the Potts Invitational where the sprints crew put three marks in the top-10. Both Aaron McCoy and Emma Pollak are top-35 in the nation in the 200-meter dash and the men's 4x400-meter relay is ranked 46th early. Both McCoy and Pollak are taking this weekend off.
Leading Colorado in rankings is Avery McMullen who is second in the NCAA in the pentathlon, 18th in the high jump and 31st in the long jump. Jada Green is also 18th in the nation in the pentathlon and will be competing in the pentathlon Thursday along with Elise Gillett who is ranked 39th in the nation.
A surprise in his first day eligible was transfer Luc Andrada who tied the 10th-best mark in CU history in the 60-meter dash without a day of practice. He will be competing in the 60 and 200 along with Kaleah Mitchell-Ruff. Aidan Christiansen will also be in the 60 while Nick Nuhfer will be in the 200.
McMullen is taking this pentathlon off but will compete in the 60-meter hurdles along with Reese Renz, Nick Bianco and John Swabik. McMullen will also compete in the high jump and long jump along with a large set of Buffs competing in those events with five in the high jump and seven in the long jump.
In the throws, four athletes will compete in the shot put, while 10 will compete in the weight throw.
Green and Gillett will be the first athletes on the track Thursday in the pentathlon. Friday the hurdles and sprints will run through the first round of all the races while the weight throws, long jumps and men's high jump will all compete Friday. Saturday will run the finals of the sprints and hurdles alongside the shot puts, men's pole vault and women's high jump.
Colorado returns home next weekend for the Colorado Invitational with field events set for Friday and the track events Saturday.
