Buffaloes Finish Fifth At Highlander

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The University of Colorado cross country program finished fifth here Saturday in both the men and women's races at the Highlander Invitational.

CU raced five men and six women on the future Pac-12 Championship course, previewing the course to report back to the championship-bound runners. The men scored 152 points and the women picked up 165. Both races went to Adams State, the top-ranked NCAA Division II program with 24 points for the men and 30 for the women.

Jake Derouin was the highest-scoring Buffalo, crossing the 8K race in 24:04.0 in 10th place. Caleb Niednagel placed 19th running 24:17.0, followed closely by Zack Gacnik in 26th at 24:32.2. Ben Greene was the fourth runner at 24:48.5, with Ryan Lindrud finishing the scoring in 81st running 25:24.4.

For the women, Alisa Meraz-Fishbein was the first across running 20:50.4 for the 6K in 19th place. Karina Andersen crossed 31st in 21:11.3, followed by Carley Bennett in 44th (21:25.4), Anna Shults in 49th (21:29.9) and Rylee Robinson finishing the scoring 53rd in 21:35.3. Joelle McDonald crossed 64th in 21:47.0.

The Buffaloes close out the regular season and look towards the Pac-12 Championship in two weeks in Riverside.
