Colorado at Washington: Facts & Figures
November 19, 2022 | Football, Neill Woelk
COLORADO BUFFALOES (1-9, 1-6 Pac-12)
at No. 15 WASHINGTON HUSKIES (8-2, 5-2 Pac-12)
KICKOFF: 7:14 p.m. (MT), Husky Stadium (70,138)
TV, RADIO: The radio broadcast will be carried by KOA (850 AM, 94.1 FM) with Voice of the Buffs Mark Johnson and Gary Barnett in the booth. KOA's coverage begins at 5 p.m. with the pregame show. The Pac-12 Network will televise the game with Ted Robinson and Yogi Roth.
ON THE INTERNET: The game can be heard on the internet at CUBuffs.com and www.850koa.com in the Denver-Boulder metro area. Live statistics will also be available at CUBuffs.com.
THE COACHES: Colorado interim head coach Mike Sanford, previously CU's offensive coordinator, is 1-4 at the Colorado helm.
Kalen DeBoer is in his first year at Washington, where he is 8-2. DeBoer previously served as head coach at Sioux Falls and Fresno State, and has an 87-11 overall record as a head coach.
THE SERIES: Washington leads the all-time series 12-7-1, but Colorado has won the last two, collecting victories in Boulder in 2019 and last season. CU is 3-5-1 in Seattle, with the Buffs' last win coming there in 1989 (45-28).
WHAT'S AT STAKE: Colorado needs a win in one of its last two games to avoid becoming only the second team in CU history to lose 11 games in a season. The Huskies need a victory to keep alive their hopes of earning a Pac-12 championship game berth.
LAST OUTING: Colorado lost at No. 8 USC last week, 55-17. The Huskies won at No. 6 Oregon, 37-34, with a late field goal.
TEAM LEADERS: Buffs running back Alex Fontenot is coming off a 108-yard effort against USC. Fellow back Deion Smith did not play against the Trojans, but leads CU with 395 yards rushing this season and is expected to be available against UW.
Quarterback J.T. Shrout has thrown for 1,100 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions. Leading receiver Jordyn Tyson is out with an injury. Montana Lemonious-Craig is Colorado's leading available receiver with 20 catches for 264 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Defensively, safety Trevor Woods — who missed last week's game — is expected to be back. Woods has 79 tackles this year. Colorado's leading tackler is linebacker Josh Chandler-Semedo, who has been in on 86 stops with three sacks and 10 more tackles for loss.
UW is led by quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who has a nation-leading 3,640 passing yards. Penix has thrown for 25 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Four different UW receivers have had at least one 100-yard receiving game this year. Rome Odunze leads the Huskies with 63 catches for 914 yards and six touchdowns. Jalen McMillian has 57 receptions for 72 yards and six scores.
Wayne Taulapapa has 546 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.
Defensively, safety Alex Cook leads Washington with 65 tackles. Linebacker Cam Bright has 56 tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception. Edge rusher Bralen Trice has seven sacks.
KEY MATCHUP: Colorado's offensive line vs. Washington defensive line. If the Buffs are going to be in this game, they have to establish a run game and give Shrout enough time to throw. Washington is yielding nearly 28 points per game while allowing 242 yards per game in the air. CU's men in the trenches have to give the offense an opportunity to keep up with the Huskies.
UP NEXT: The Buffs wrap up their season at home next Saturday against Utah.
