Several Buffs Earn Postseason Honors On Gridiron

BOULDER—Several Colorado Buffaloes football players earned postseason honors, as All-Pac-12, Freshman All-America and the National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter all released honors recently.  

Last week the Pac-12 released the All-Pac-12 team as voted on by the league's coaches.  Freshman WR Jordyn Tyson was an honorable mention selection for Freshman Offensive Player of the Year.  ILB Josh Chandler-Semedo, CB/RS Nikko Reed, OG Casey Roddick, TE Brady Russell and DL Jalen Sami were all named honorable mention, which Reed earning the honor both as a cornerback and a return specialist.  

Tyson was also named an honorable-mention Freshman All-American by the College Football News.  

On Thursday, the NFF Colorado Chapter released the All-Colorado team. Earning first-team honors were OT Tommy Brown and Chandler-Semedo.  K Cole Becker, RB Alex Fontenot, DE Terrance Lang and S Trevor Woods all earned second-team honors alongside Reed, Roddick, Russell and Sami.  

Thursday also saw the release of the Phil Steele All-Pac-12 team.  Chandler-Semedo, Russell and Sami were named to the third team while Roddick earned fourth team mention along with Reed as a kick returner.  

Becker, a sophomore from Roseville, Calif., was 11-of-13 on field goals and 20-of-21 on PATs, missing just three kicks the entire season.  He had just seven of 43 kickoffs returned throughout the season with 34 touchbacks, 30 of which sailed through the end zone.  

Brown, a graduate student from Santa Ana, Calif., played 698 offensive snaps and graded out to 85.9 by the CU coaches, the best mark on the team.  He led CU with nine touchdown blocks and also had eight perfect plays on passing touchdowns.  He allowed just two pressures and had no penalties throughout the season. 

Chandler-Semedo, a graduate student from Canton, Ohio, finished the season with 101 tackles which included 13 tackles for loss (five sacks) and five more tackles for no gain.  He had eight third down stops, two quarterback pressures, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup.  He was named the team's MVP.  

Fontenot, a senior from Richmond, Texas, missed six games du to injury but in the other six he rushed 65 times for 315 yards and a touchdown and added six receptions for 56 yards.  He was a three-time Doak Walker Award watch list and finished his CU career with 357 rushes for 1,556 yards and 13 touchdowns.  

Reed, a sophomore from Oakland, Calif., was in on 44 stops this season with two interceptions, seven pass breakups, one sack, a fourth down stop and fumble recovery.  He also returned 19 kickoffs for an average of 23.6 yards and along of 45.  

Roddick, a junior from Ventura, Calif., played a team-best 707 snaps on the offensive line for CU, grading out to 85.2 by the CU coaching staff.  He led CU with nine touchdown blocks and six perfect plays on passing touchdowns. 

Russell, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., was an outstanding blocker as the season progressed, and will play in the NFLPA All-Star game.  He had the third-best mark nationally for tight ends according to PFF and he finished the year with 20 receptions for 153 yards and had two rushes for a yard and a touchdown.  

Sami, a junior Colorado Springs, finished the season with 38 tackles, five quarterback hurries, four tackles for zero, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.  In the last six games, he had at least three tackles each game and had a career best six against Oregon and five more on three occasions.  

Tyson missed three games due to injuries, but still finished second on the team with 22 receptions and led the Buffs in receiving yards (470) and touchdowns (4).  He also ran the ball three times and completed one pass for 37 yards.  His two games prior to injury he had 10 receptions for 252 yards and two touchdowns.  

Woods, a sophomore from Katy, Texas, finished the season with 84 tackles, eight third down stops, three quarterback hurries, and also added two force fumbles, two tackles for loss, and an interception.  He led the Buffs averaging 8.4 tackles per game and was second on the team in overall tackles.
