Throwers Finish Up Windy Jack Christiansen Invite

FORT COLLINS – The University of Colorado track and field throwers competed in three throwing events this weekend here at the Jack Christiansen Invitational at CSU.

Friday CU senior Dominique Williams won the men's hammer throw with a toss of 60.49 meters (198-05). All four of his fair throws were good enough to win the event. Teammate Clayton Castro finished second in 56.87 meters (186-07), less than two feet from a CU top-10 mark.

In the women's throws, Elena Opp was the highest finishing Buff with a fifth-place mark in the hammer throw at 53.48m (175-05) and sixth in the discus with a toss of 41.01m (134-06). Obi Osafo-Mensah finished seventh in the discus with Gya'ni Sami finishing ninth. Jane Powers finished seventh in the hammer throw while Sami finished 10th.

Lauren Whyrick also had a good afternoon, finishing fifth in the shot put at 12.89m (42-3.5) and 12th in the hammer throw.

Also for Colorado, Lars Atkinson finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 48.55m (159-03).

Colorado competes next at the Fresno State Invitational April 30th. The Buffs are only three weeks away from the Pac-12 Championships May 14-15, but before that will compete May 6 at the Air Force Twilight.
