Williams Closes In On School Record
April 08, 2022 | Track and Field
BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field senior Dominique Williams put on a show here Friday evening during the first day of the 2022 Colorado Invitational.
Â
Williams won the men's hammer throw with a toss of 64.38 meters (211-3), a six-foot personal best and moving him within 13 inches of the school record. All of his throws were over 61 meters, including two throws in the 64.30s. For now the record set in 2015 by Alex Kizirian of 64.71 meters (212-4) is safe, but Williams is just getting started.
Â
Williams was joined by two Buffs with impressive marks today. Tyler Sconce jumped up to fourth in CU history at 60.95 meters (200-0), more than 10 feet past his previous best. His throw was good for second in the meet. Close behind was Clayton Castro at 56.30 meters (184-8), just four feet from entering the top-10. He placed fourth overall.
Â
In the women's event, Elena Opp was the top Buff with a throw of 54.06 meters (177-4), just three inches from her personal best. Jane Powers finished sixth while Gya'ni Sami rounded out the top-10 in seventh.
Â
The Buffs won one other event this evening with Jada Green leading the way in the women's javelin. Green won the event with a toss of 47.29 meters (155-2). Elise Gillett finished fifth in the event to round out the top-10 for Colorado.
Â
Three other men were in the top-10 for CU, Jackson Meyer in the triple jump finishing sixth (13.61 meters | 44-8), and Henry Carlson (49.79 meters | 163-4) and Nick Bianco (43.90 meters | 144-0) finishing eighth and 10th in the javelin, respectfully.
Â
Colorado ramps up action tomorrow starting at 11 a.m. CU will honor 16 student-athletes competing for the final time in a CU jersey at Potts Field at 10:45 a.m.
