Graduate Student Named To First Team For Track & FIeld and Cross Country
BOULDER—Micaela DeGenero was named a first-team Academic All-American for women's track & field and cross country by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced earlier this week.
Â
DeGenero had an undergraduate GPA of 3.69 and is maintaining a graduate GPA of 3.90 in Technology, Cybersecurity and Policy. She recently capped off an outstanding collegiate season where she won an individual NCAA Championship in the mile at the indoor championships and finished second in the 1,500 meters at the outdoor championships.Â
Â
She is competing at the U.S. National Championships this week in Eugene, Ore., and has the 24th fastest time (4:09.38) in the field entering the race. She will race Thursday evening just before 8 p.m. MT in the first round of the women's 1,500.Â
Â
She was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the Buffs at the CUSPYs and was a finalist for the Career Athletic Achievement Award despite only competing for the Buffs for two seasons as a graduate transfer.
Â
DeGenero is one of 68 Academic All-Americans in CU history and is the ninth women's track & field and cross country recipient and it's the 14th honor for those nine women. She is just the fifth Buff to earn first-team honors and it's the eighth first-team honor for the program.Â
