Pac-12 Coaches and Media agree in preseason voting

LAS VEGAS – The Colorado women's basketball team was ranked fourth in both the 2022-23 Pac-12 Women's Preseason Coaches and Media polls, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.

The preseason projection is CU's highest since it was selected third in the 2013-14 preseason coaches poll.

"I believe the Pac-12 might be the strongest that it's ever been for women's basketball this season," head coach JR Payne commented. "To be considered in the top four is pretty great. We have everything it takes to compete with anyone in the country and we can't wait to get the season started."

Colorado returns four of its five starters from last season, including Preseason Pac-12 All-Conference honorees Jaylyn Sherrod and Quay Miller. Senior Frida Formann and junior Aaronette Vonleh, Preseason All-Conference honorable mentions, fill out the group that accounted for 68.7% of the Buffaloes' scoring in 2022-23.

CU made history last season, earning the No. 3 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament, marking its best finish in league history. The team's 25-9 record was its best mark since going 25-7 in the 2012-13 season. Last season was just the eighth time Colorado recorded a 25-win season and was the first time with 20 wins in back-to-back seasons since the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

The Buffs added Michigan transfer Maddie Nolan and Missouri transfer Sara-Rose Smith to the arsenal for this season. The team also reloaded with four true freshmen and two redshirt freshmen.

Formann, Miller and Payne will represent Colorado at Tuesday's Pac-12 Media Day in Las Vegas. The Buffs are slated to appear on the Pac-12 Network at 11:15 a.m. MT.
