Colorado Men Place Top-10 At Nuttycombe
October 13, 2023 | Cross Country
MADISON, Wis. - In its final meet before Pac-12 Championships, the University of Colorado cross country program braved the elements here on a rainy Friday at the Nuttycombe Invitational. The men's team finished seventh with 312 points while the women's team finished 14th with 395 points in their respective championship races.Â
Due to the weather conditions, the championships were moved ahead of the B races in order to get the major races out of the way first. The women's 6K started the morning with 33 teams competing.
Ella Baran, Karrie Baloga and Emily Covert were the only Buffs to crack the top-100 as they each put together top-50 finishes. In her first meet of the season, Baran placed 33rd in 20:35.9, making her move in the final third of the race. Baloga and Covert weren't far behind as they both finished within five seconds of Baran.
The men's 8K championship race followed shortly after and the Buffaloes fared much better in a pool of 36 teams. Colorado's five scorers all finished within the top-100 as two of them finished inside the top-50. The men were led by Isaiah Givens who placed 24th in 23:54.5 and Austin Vancil who placed 35th in 24:00.7.
James Overberg, Paul Stafford and Noah Hibbard were the next Buffs to cross the finish line as Overberg came in 79th (24:17.1), Stafford came in 88th (24:20.2) and Hibbard came in 89th (24:20.5).
In the B races, the Colorado women's squad saw just three athletes compete while the men's squad saw a larger group of eight. Tiya Chamberlin finished 44th with a time of 22:32.5, followed by Joelle McDonald in 83rd and Karina Andersen in 109th.
