Buffs Fall In Four To No.7 Oregon

Eugene, Ore. - The Colorado women's volleyball team (14-11, 6-8) fell to the No.7 Oregon Ducks (21-4, 11-3) in four sets (7-25, 26-24, 20-25, 9-25) Sunday afternoon.Â
Despite the loss, the Buffs fought back after a tough first set. The comeback was led once again by outside hitter Maya Tabron in kills. Tabron played a strong match to earn herself 11 kills in 45 attempts while also posting 11 digs. Sydney Jordan stepped up as well, producing nine kills in 24 attempts to hit .292.Â
Colorado could not keep up with Oregon's top scorers Gabby Gonzales and Mimi Colyer. Gonzales hit 15 kills in 35 attempts to hit .371, while Colyer earned 15 kills as well to hit .467.Â
As a team, CU posted 41 kills to hit .153, while the Ducks earned 62 kills to hit .382.Â
The Buffs will travel to Arizona to compete against the Arizona State Sun Devils on November 9 at 7:00 p.m. MT as well as the Arizona Wildcats on November 11 at 2:00 p.m. MT.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
SET ONE: Tabron set things off for the Buffs, earning the first two points for Colorado early on with two kills. Oregon jumped to an early lead of 10-3 to force a timeout by Colorado; however, the Buffs continued to struggle at the service line and fell to Oregon in set one 7-25Â
SET TWO: CU went on a 4-0 scoring run early on to take a lead of 4-3 led by three straight aces from true freshman Avery Bolles. Kills from Lily Dwinell and Skyy Howard kept the lead alive at 6-5. Both teams continued to trade points back and forth for the remainder of the set until Oregon took a lead of 21-17; however, Coloradodid not back down as they caught back up to 20-21 off of a 3-0 scoring run that included kills from Tabron and Howard to force a timeout by Oregon. The Buffs got their lead back at 23-22 off of Tabron's seventh kill of the match. Colorado fought back to take the win in set two off of a 3-0 scoring run at 26-24.Â
SET THREE: The Buffs jumped to an early 5-4 lead off a service error from Oregon and continued to trade points with the Ducks. Dwinell's fourth kill of the match kept things alive at 6-5. Oregon regained their lead at 13-11, but that didn't slow down the Buffs. Jordan produced another kill to tie things up at 13-13. Colorado continued to fight for the lead until the Ducks moved to 21-19 on the set, but unfortunately could not overcome the Ducks; offense as Oregon took set three off of a 5-0 scoring run at 25-20.Â
SET FOUR: Oregon took control early in set four with a 7-1 lead 7-1. Alexia Kuehl stepped up and earned her first two kills of the match to keep the Buffs in the game, however, Colorado was not able to keep up as they fell to the Ducks 25-9.Â
