Colorado Indoor Track and Field Teams Opened Season at Mines Alumni Classic

McMullen Breaks Colorado's 41-year old Long Jump Record
GOLDEN, Co | The University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes opened their 2023-24 indoor track & field season at the Mines Alumni Classic in Golden, Colorado. Notably, Avery McMullen, a standout in Colorado's track history, etched her name further into the record books by snapping Colorado's indoor long jump record on her second attempt of the season, leaping an impressive 6.18m (20' 3.5"). This feat surpassed a 41-year-old record at Steinhauer Fieldhouse on the Colorado School of Mines campus.
McMullen's exceptional performance included breaking the school record twice, initially on her first jump and then surpassing it by an inch on her second jump, securing a first-place finish.
In the Women's Shot Put event, Lauren Whyrick represented the Buffs with a fifth-place finish, registering a throw of 14.03, narrowly missing her personal best of 14.07.
Turning to the Men's competition, Lars Atkinson showcased his prowess with a commendable seventh-place finish in the shot put, achieving a personal best throw of 14.16m.
Looking ahead, the Mines Alumni Classic will resume on day two, featuring throwers at 9:30 a.m., followed by the triple jump at 11 a.m., high jump at 1:30 p.m., and track events at 1 p.m.

Simultaneously, Colorado athletes Ella Baran, Abbey Glynn, and Austin Vancil are gearing up for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University, will compete in the 5,000m race, while Glynn is set to participate in the 600m event.
The action-packed schedule at the Boston University meet kicks off at 8 a.m. MT on Saturday, with running events preceding field events by 30 minutes.
