Buffs Participate in LCD’s First Lacrosse Career Day

BOULDER - Ten members of the University of Colorado women's lacrosse team participated in a career and professional development conference on Boulder's famous Pearl Street. The event was led by CU's Scripps Leadership and Career Development (LCD) program.

The development conference offered the student-athletes the opportunity to connect with potential future employers. The conference began at the CapitalOne Cafe where the players were able to talk to various companies, and then each player headed to a specific business office to continue networking. The Buffs were able to select which company they wanted to shadow before the event, so they could prepare questions for the specific business they were shadowing.

"We are excited to partner with Downtown Boulder Partnership for a shadow day for student-athletes on the women's lacrosse team," said Lauren Unrein, the Associate AD for LCD. "This is a really unique opportunity for these student-athletes to connect with local organizations, learn about different industries, and ultimately find internships and jobs!"

This year's leadership event was the first that LCD has held for women's lacrosse, and lacrosse is the first sport after football to have their own specific career development day. LCD is aiming to expand and host more shadowing opportunities for other sports in the future.

"We have a great career and leadership development program here at CU," said head lacrosse coach Ann Elliott Whidden. "They offer opportunities for our student-athletes to take advantage of throughout the year. This year we talked with Lauren and wanted to do something specifically for lacrosse. She did an amazing job in setting up different opportunities for our student-athletes throughout the downtown Boulder community. We wanted to expose our athletes to what different careers may look like and entail, so they can continue to figure out different potential paths and make different connections in the community."
LCD specializes in helping student-athletes identify how their specific skills and experience as a student-athlete can be transferred to the professional world. Senior and Communication major Madeline Pisani said that the career development conference helped her do just that.

"The shadowing event helped prepare me and open my eyes to some possibilities for life after athletics!," Pisani commented
