Avery McMullen claims third in the heptathlon

WALNUT, Calif. – Two top-10 marks and one podium finish in the multi-events headlined day two of the Pac-12 Championships for the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday.

Avery McMullen found herself on the podium with a third-place finish in the women's heptathlon and a new personal best score of 5831 points. She placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.18m (20-3.5), as well as second in the 800-meters with a PR time of 2:15.49. McMullen's point total is now the second most on the Buffs' performance list, falling just short of the school record set by Annette Tannander (5863) in 1983.

Nicholas Bianco (7175 points) and Troy Colleran (6905 points) placed sixth and seventh in the men's decathlon, respectively, both scoring points for the Buffaloes. Bianco has now entered the top-10 list at sixth all-time in CU history. He placed second in the 110 hurdles, clocking 14.68. Colleran hit a personal best in the javelin throwing 50.09m (164-4) on his final attempt.

All three CU men in the 800-meters qualified for Sunday's final.  The trio of Ben Greene, Isaiah Givens and Ryan Lindrud placed fifth, sixth and seventh, spread across three different heats.

Elle Orie placed fourth in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking 10:04.83. She scored five points for Colorado. Charlie Welch ran to a sixth-place finish (9:02.32) in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase final to score three points.

With eight events scored, the CU women are sitting in sixth with a team score of 26 points, while the men are sitting in seventh with 22 points collectively.

Day three will begin tomorrow with Matt Ward and Lars Atkinson in the men's discus throw. Bailey Hertenstein (1,500-meters) and Abbey Glynn (400-meter hurdles) qualified in yesterday's preliminaries and will run in Sunday's finals.
