Coburn Secures Spot on Team USA

July 08, 2023 | Track and Field

Finished second in the steeplechase

EUGENE, Ore. – Colorado alum Emma Coburn highlighted day three of the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships at historic Hayward Field on Saturday.

Coburn ran her way onto Team USA in the steeplechase, finishing second with a season-best time of 9:13.60. Coburn ran in the top three for the entire race and held the lead in the final stages, before getting caught by former Arkansas Razorback Krissy Gear.

The second-place finish snapped a streak of 11 consecutive U.S. outdoor titles for Coburn.

Coburn becomes the second Colorado alum to make Team USA for the upcoming World Athletic Championships in Budapest, Hungry, joining Joe Klecker in the men's 10,000-meters.

Abbey Glynn's bid for a spot in the 400-meter hurdles came up short on Saturday. She finished seventh in her heat and 13th overall (57.43) in the two-heat semifinals.

Former Buff Dani Jones did not finish in the women's 1,500-meters, pulling out of the competition after the first 400-meters.

Gustavo Alfonso advanced to the final eight in the U20 javelin. His first throw of 60.52m (198-7) proved to be the best of his six attempts and was good enough for a sixth-place finish.

Elsewhere, Allie Routledge finished eighth in the high jump at the UK Athletic Championships, clearing 1.73m.

The action concludes on Sunday with Sage Hurta-Klecker and Joe Klecker in action. Hurta-Klecker will look to clinch a spot on Team USA in the 800-meters (7:18 p.m. MT) while Klecker will look to complete his double in the 5,000-meters (7:50 p.m.).
