CU Celebrates 2023 Season at Annual Banquet

BOULDER -- The University of Colorado women's volleyball team celebrated their Fall 2023 accomplishments at their year-end banquet in the Touchdown Club over the weekend. 

Colorado comes off a season in which they ended with a 16-15 record, including an 8-12 Pac-12 conference record. The Buffs' highlight wins during the season included a 3-0 sweep of #17 Arizona State, 3-2 win over USC, and a 3-0 sweep of the Washington Huskies at home. CU proved to be a dominant force when playing in the Events Center, going 11-5 in 16 home matches. 

After dropping their first match of the season, CU went on a five-match winning streak without dropping a single set. In that run they took down Campbell, North Texas, Northern Colorado, Xavier and Charlotte. In result of those wins, the Buffs' were crowned champions of the Buffs Invitational and the Colorado Classic. Colorado also claimed the Golden Spike trophy after reverse sweeping Colorado State on their home court. 

During the banquet, the team handed out a number of volleyball and team awards.  

TEAM AWARDS 

Lexi Hadrych was honored with the Offensive MVP award for the second straight year. Despite missing seven matches, Hadrych finished second on the team in kills (288) with a .263 hitting percentage and led in kills per set (3.35). She has a season-high 22 kills against Denver in four sets, with an impressive .631 hitting percentage. Lexi in two years with CU notched 638 kills in 54 matches. 

Morgan Riddle earned the Defensive MVP award in her final season in Boulder after serving as Colorado's libero. She led the team with 271 digs and had 10 matches of logging double-digit digs. She had a season and career-high 22 digs in her final match of her collegiate career against Utah. 

Bella Simkus was chosen as the Scout Team MVP. The award is given to a versatile player who helps to prepare the starters for the different kinds of opponents they're going to face each week. Simkus had a season-high five kills and three combined blocks in the win over Charlotte. 

Maya Tabron earned the Heart of the Buff award by displaying the ideals and core values that are established in the volleyball program on a day-to-day basis. The senior outside hitter led the team in kills with 331 and second in digs with 263. Tabron ends her CU career with 1,083 kills, 790 digs, and 187 total blocks. Maya graduates in May with majors' in Business Analytics and Marketing.
