Three Buffs Head to ITA Regional Quarterfinals

LAS CRUCES, NM – The Buffaloes continued play at the ITA Regionals today with a late start and an early finish due to weather. Despite the rain, three Buffs and one doubles duo made their way to the quarterfinals.

To start off in doubles competition #1 Aya El Sayed and Pia Rebec had a close finish but ultimately fell to Paula Schaefer and Bhakti Shah of Boise State, 8-7 with a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Anya Nelson and Ema Bubalo captured their doubles win over Utah's #5 Emma Kamper and Sara Akid, 8-6, to stay alive and move forward into the quarters.

In an undefeated day of singles competition, #3 Mila Stanojevic, #9 Betina Tokac, and Rixt Van Der Werff held their position on the front after three victories.

Stanojevic downed #9 Claudia Martinez de Velasco of Denver with a quick straight set, 6-1, 6-0. She will face Sara Akid of Utah tomorrow.

Van Der Werff faced #9 Emma Kamper of Utah, earning the victory in the second set with a matching 6-3, 6-3 straight set.

Tokac finished the day with the final win over #5 Kaila Barksdale, allowing only three points. Tokac downed Utah's Barksdale, 6-1, 6-2.

The Buffs will keep battling into day three tomorrow, with three Buffaloes still on the front side in singles and one duo in doubles play.
