Nine CU players set for final game at Prentup Field
BOULDER – Colorado closes its regular season with a Friday night matchup against its cross-mountain rival Utah at Prentup Field on Friday (7 p.m. MT/ESPN+).
The Buffaloes (10-3-4, 4-2-4 Big 12) will look to get back on track on Senior Night, honoring nine players who will be playing in their final regular season home game. Colorado will honor Lindsey Smith, Laura Gouvin, Lola Stanley, Rachel Rosen, Jenny Beyer, Michaela Rosenbaum, Phoenix Dawn Miranda, Shyra James and Hannah Duguid.
"What a fantastic group of talented women," head coach Danny Sanchez acknowledged. "They have all represented our program and university with class on and off the field. Each of them has taken a different route to Colorado, and we are fortunate that they selected us. I know each of them will be very successful in wherever life takes them next year and in the future."
Out of the departing group, five players have spent their entire four- or five-year careers as Buffs. James and Rosen returned this season for a fifth season, while Miranda, Beyer and Duguid are wrapping up their fourth season at CU.
"What came into my decision to return was to make a legacy here and just to have another year with my team," James noted.
Rosen's choice to return was similarly based on the team, saying she wanted to play another year on "the best campus with the best team."
Rosen became a two-year captain this season, adding to her three-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll accolades. She was also a College Sports Communicator's Academic All-District selection in 2023. She has started 56 matches and appeared in 80 games as a Buff. She's been positioned up and down the field, having played at all three levels throughout her career. She's recorded four goals and 12 assists and ranks ninth in program history in assists. She set the CU record for consecutive matches with an assist doing so in four games from Sept. 10-28 last season.
James has etched her name in the CU record books throughout her five-year career. She set the CU goal-scoring record with a hat-trick performance against Wyoming this season, giving her 46 career goals. The Las Mesa, Calif., native ranks second in career points (99) and is just the second Buff to score 10 or more goals in multiple seasons. She was a Third Team United Soccer Coaches All-American in 2023, scoring 15 goals, and finished the season with the second-highest point total in CU history (32). James joins CU greats Nikki Marshall and Taylor Kornieck as the only Buffs with 90 career points. James was ranked No. 74 in this year's Top Drawer Soccer Mid-season 100, despite missing eight matches this season. She's a two-time All-Pac-12 Conference selection, earning first-team honors last season, and was an All-Freshman selection in 2020. James has also scored two Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors and was a 2024 Top Drawer Soccer Third Team Preseason Best XI selection.
Miranda has made a career-high 16 starts in her final season. She started 36 of her 68 career matches in the backfield and contributed to 28 career shutouts. The Aiae, Hawaii native, scored her first career goal, recording the game-winner against Northern Colorado last season, and was the team's 2021 Newcomer of the Year. This season, she was ranked No. 82 in Top Drawer Soccer's Mid-season Top 100.
"These four years mean a lot to me," Miranda expressed. "I made a lot of memories and met a lot of people I'm going to remember for the rest of my life. Basically, my second family is here. I'll cherish that forever."
Beyer is finishing her fifth year in the program. She's played in 42 career matches and missed two full seasons due to injury. She's returned to the pitch this season, having started two the past two games and appearing in 13 this season. The Stuttgart, Germany, native scored her two career goals in back-to-back games against Valparaiso and BYU as a sophomore and finished the year with a career-high 9 points.
"These four years mean a lot to me, especially being so far away from home," Beyer expressed. "CU became my second home here. I grew a lot as a person, on and off the field. I made a lot of good memories and met many people I'm going to miss a lot.
Duguid is a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll honoree. She's played in 41 games and made two starts in three seasons, having missed the 2023 campaign due to injury. She played in all but one game in the 2022 season, registering her first career assist against Texas A&M Commerce. She scored her first career goal, with a game-winner in the Buffs' 3-0 win over Colorado Mines in 2021.
"These four years have meant a lot because I've met some of my best friends here," Duguid explained. "I love Boulder a lot. It's a beautiful place and a beautiful campus."
Smith, Gouvin, Stanley and Rosenbaum all began their collegiate careers elsewhere before finding their way to Colorado.
Smith, a Toledo, Ohio, native, is closing out her third season in Boulder. She started her career at the University of Memphis before transferring in 2022. She has appeared in goal in two matches for the Buffs, making three saves. She picked up her first career win in a 6-0 victory over Texas A&M Commerce in 2022.
Gouvin transferred to CU this season following a four-year career at Boston College. She has started every match this season in the midfield and enters Friday with two assists in the Black & Gold. She has played in 83 career matches and made 74 career starts, totaling five goals and 10 assists.
Stanley is in her third season at CU after opening her career at the University of Texas. She has appeared in 24 matches as a Buff and 30 in her career. She scored her first career goal earlier this season in CU's 5-1 win over Wyoming.
Rosenbaum has started 15 of 17 matches in her and played in a career-high 1,208 minutes. She's recorded two assists this season, including helping set up the game-winner at No. 12 Oklahoma State. The Santa Rose, Calif., graduate student played her first four years at UCLA, recording two goals and four assists in 64 career matches. She played 16 games as a junior in 2022, helping the Bruins in their national championship season.
