Colorado opens the home season against Northern Colorado

BOULDER – Colorado women's basketball returns to the CU Events Center for the first in the 2024-25 season, hosting Northern Colorado on Thursday (7 p.m. MT/ESPN+).

The Buffaloes (1-0) successfully opened the season with a 56-50 win at Wyoming on Monday. The brand-new Buffs were led by graduate transfer Lior Garzon and her 20 points. The win was the 900th in program history as the team celebrates its 50th anniversary this season.

Colorado has won 16 consecutive home openers since the 2008-09 season.

Northern Colorado (1-0) was picked to finish fifth in the Big Sky preseason coaches poll. The Bears opened on Monday with a 66-64 win over Concordia (NE). London Gamble led the Bears with 18 points in the win.

Five Things to Know
  1. 124 Straight – Colorado has hit at least one 3-pointer in 124 consecutive games. CU opened the season 1-for-10 to extend the streak at Wyoming. The Buffs struggled in the first half, going 0-for-5 from behind the arc. It was the first half without a 3-pointer for CU since its 0-for-5 first half at Arizona back on Feb. 19, 2023. The streak started on Marc. 5, 2020 with a 3-for-17 effort against Southern California.
  2. Debuts – Garzon's 20-point night at Wyoming was the most points by a Buff making her Colorado debut since LeaAnn Banks had 23 points in her CU debut at Georgia Tech on Nov. 21, 1984. Tabitha Betson became the first true freshman to start a season-opener since Annika Jank in the 2017-18 season. Johanna Teder, Jade Masogayo, Nyamer Diew, Ayianna Johnson and Kennedy Sanders all made their first appearances in the Black & Gold at Wyoming.
  3. All-time vs UNC – CU is 14-6 all-time against Northern Colorado. The Buffs have won 11 straight against the Bears.
  4. Quick Turnaround(s) – Thursday's game will be the Buffs' first of three in six days. CU will travel to Boise State (Nov. 10) and Lake Tahoe to take on Nevada (Nov. 12).
  5. With a Win – A win on Thursday would mark CU's 499th at the CU Events Center. The Buffs have a 498-188 record since moving to the CUEC in the 1979-80 season.
Thad Anderson and Hall of Fame coach Ceal Barry will have the call on ESPN+.

Cory Lopez and Carol Callan will have pregame coverage starting 30 minutes before tip-off on the Colorado Radio Network.
