BOULDER – Colorado soccer head coach Danny Sanchez adds to his collection of Hall of Fame inductions with his selection to the Mesa Community College Hall of Fame.
Sanchez enters the MCC Hall of Fame as the Outstanding Coach honoree. He was one of eight individuals to be selected for induction across different categories for contributions to MCC. Robin Wilson, the lead singer of the Gin Blossoms, is also in the 2024 class as the Alumni Achievement recipient.
This will be Sanchez's fourth Hall of Fame induction. He's been inducted into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame as an individual in 2018 and alongside his two national championship teams at Metro State University in 2023.
Sanchez signed with MCC in 1987 and helped the men's soccer team to the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) and Region 1 Championships. He was a First Team All-ACCAC selection in 1988 and earned a scholarship to the University of Connecticut, where he helped the Huskies to the 1989 Big East Championship.
Sanchez returned to MCC in 1995, taking the helm of both the men's and women's programs. He was the 1995 and 2001 ACCAC men's Coach of the Year and posted a 96-36-7 record as the men's coach. Sanchez was the first women's coach at MCC, coached 12 All-Americans in his six seasons, and compiled a 103-15-5 record.
He left for Metro State in 2002 and spent six seasons with the Roadrunners, winning two national championships. He jumped into Division I coaching in 2008, taking over at the University of Wyoming. He spent four seasons in Laramie before moving to Boulder in 2012.
2024 marked Sanchez's 13th season with the Buffaloes. He's the program's all-time winningest coach, with a 145-86-39 record and a .609 winning percentage. Sanchez has taken Colorado to eight NCAA Tournaments, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2013.
