December 20, 2024 | Football

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.– Adding to the list of accolades collected this year the Colorado Buffaloes had 12 honored by the Colorado Chapter of the National Football Foundation end-of-season awards.

The Buffs took home three awards with Travis Hunter winning Defensive Player of the Year, Shedeur Sanders taking home Offensive Player of the Year, and Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders collecting Coach of the Year.

Hunter has added to his trophy collection including the Heisman Trophy and a Unanimous First-Team All-American selection. Hunter has had one of the most decorated seasons in college football history taking home the following awards: Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Award, Chuck Bednarik Award, Fred Biletnikoff Award, Paul Hornung Award, LOTT Impact Award, AP National Player of the Year, and Sporting News National Player of the Year.

Sanders has taken home his fair share of awards after rewriting the Colorado record book this season. He now holds the record for passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season, is fifth in career passing yards, and needs only two passing touchdowns in the Valero Alamo Bowl against BYU on Dec. 28 to become the all-time passing touchdowns in CU history. Those are just a few of the records with Sanders holding over 80 Colorado records.

Coach Prime earned his first Coach of the Year Award at Colorado after leading the Buffs to a 9-3 record and tied for first place in the Big 12 at the end of the regular season. Colorado was picked to finish 11th in the preseason poll at the start of the season but rose to as high as No. 16 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Hunter was named first team at both defensive back and wide receiver. He was joined on the first team by Sanders, Nikhai Hill-Green, Alejandro Mata, and Chidozie Nwankwo.

Five Buffs were honored on the second team: BJ Green II, Jordan Seaton, Will Sheppard, Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig, and LaJohntay Wester.
