Colorado Volleyball’s Burilovic Tabbed for Big 12 Postseason Award
December 03, 2024 | Volleyball
The Buffs’ sophomore outside hitter Ana Burilovic earned All-Big 12 Volleyball Second Team laurels
IRVING, Texas – Colorado volleyball sophomore outside hitter Ana Burilovic (Split, Croatia) was named to the 2024 All-Big 12 Volleyball Second Team, the Big 12 Conference announced on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Burilovic's all-conference selection marks the 56th athlete to be selected for a postseason award (Big 12 or Pac-12) and the 96th selection all-time. It is also the 25th Big 12 postseason award received by a CU volleyball Buff – excluding the 25 earned in the Big Eight. This is the first Big 12 Volleyball Second Team award garnered by a Colorado athlete, as the others are a variety of First Team and Honorable Mention selections.
Burilovic is seventh in the Big 12 for points per set (4.12) and eighth for kills per set (3.55). This is the first selection for the Buffs after moving back to the Big 12, and this is Burilovic's first all-conference selection of her career. Burilovic played and started in 29 of the Buffs 30 matches this season and totaled 401 kills, 197 digs, 46 blocks and 38 service aces. With her 401 kills, she becomes the 13th for kills in a single season in the rally scoring era for Colorado. Her service ace total makes her the third in the Colorado rally scoring era for service aces, just two behind the season rally scoring ace leader, current sophomore DS/L Avery Bolles (52; 2023).
Burilovic currently has six double-doubles in her career, with four of those occurring this season against North Texas (Aug. 30), Washington (Sept. 8), Wyoming (Sept. 15) and Utah (Sept. 29). She was the Buffs' leading scorer this season and led the team in service aces. She also was the fourth on the team in both digs and blocks.
Nineteen student-athletes were selected to the All-Big 12 First Team while 17 were named to the Second Team. Ten freshmen were chosen to the All-Big 12 Rookie Team. The awards were selected by the Conference's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their institution. A full list of the honorees can be found after this release.
The Buffs completed their season last week, splitting the final two conference matches against Kansas State (W, 3-0) on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and Houston (L, 0-3) on Saturday, Nov. 30. Against Kansas State, Colorado recognized five seniors in defensive specialist Emma Torstenson, defensive specialist Emilea Stepaniuk, outside hitter Jahara Campbell, middle blocker Bella Simkus and setter Taylor Simpson.
Under ninth-year head coach Jesse Mahoney, Colorado finished the 2024 season 13-17 and went 6-12 against Big 12 opponents. Coach Mahoney has led the Buffs to a 141-126 (.528) record in his nine seasons at the helm. The Buffs registered five dominant sweeps in the 2024 season, including victories over Cincinnati (Nov. 9) and Kansas State on senior night (Nov. 27). CU also played in nine five-set matches in 2024, seeing victories over six teams and three five-set victories in a row in October – against Texas Tech on Oct. 5, at UCF on Oct. 13 and at Arizona on Oct. 16.
