Buffs Open Indoor Season at Mines

Golden, Colo. — The Colorado Buffaloes kicked off the 2024-25 indoor track and field season with several personal records on the opening day of the Alumni Classic at Steinhauer Fieldhouse on Friday.

In the men's long jump, Jackson Meyer secured a third-place finish with a personal best leap of 7.32 meters. Nick Bianco, returning to competition after missing last outdoor season, recorded a personal best of 7.23 meters to finish fourth. Other Buffaloes in the event included John Swabik (sixth), Aiden Christiansen (seventh), John Bass (10th), and Marco Martinez (11th) in the 12-competitor field.

On the women's side, Riley Burkey placed sixth with a personal best jump of 5.50 meters, while Ava Goetz finished 11th with a mark of 5.23 meters.

In the women's shot put, Amanda Opp earned third place with a throw of 12.09 meters, and Elena Opp finished ninth with a mark of 10.32 meters.

For the men, Lucas Williams led CU in the shot put with a fourth-place throw of 15.76 meters. Ames Newman followed in sixth with a toss of 14.02 meters, and Gustavo Alfonso placed 10th at 12.12 meters.

The Alumni Classic continues Saturday at 11 a.m., while three of CU's distance runners will compete at Boston University beginning at 10:50 a.m. ET.
