CU Set to Host 2025 Big 12 Lacrosse Championships at Prentup Field

BOULDER — The Big 12 Conference announced Wednesday that Colorado will host the inaugural 2025 Big 12 Lacrosse Championship on-campus at Prentup Field at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, the Buffaloes first in the Big 12.
Teams will play a single round-robin, consisting of five games, with the top four teams advancing to the Big 12 Championship on May 1-3.
"I am so excited for the Big 12 to be sponsoring lacrosse," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "This is huge for us and the sport. We are very excited to be able to host the first ever Big 12 Championship. I really appreciate the support our administration has shown in pushing for Big 12 lacrosse and offering to host the first tournament in Boulder. This is such an amazing opportunity and shows the support our department has for our program."
The Big 12 also announced Florida, San Diego State, and UC Davis will also join the conference as affiliate members for Lacrosse. Colorado, Arizona State, and Cincinnati are the active Big 12 schools that sponsor lacrosse, which the Big 12 last November announced it will add as a sponsored sport.
"These additions support the continued growth of women's sports across our Conference, including the league's first lacrosse championship," Big 12 Vice President for Women's Basketball & Competition Dayna Scherf said. "We look forward to welcoming the coaches, student-athletes and fans from each of these institutions to Big 12 competition."
CU and Arizona State are already conference foes of San Diego State and UC Davis, who became affiliate Pac-12 Lacrosse members ahead of the 2023 season.
Colorado also hosted the inaugural Pac-12 Lacrosse Championship in 2018 when the Pac-12 added lacrosse as a sponsored sport.
Colorado will host No. 4 Northwestern Thursday at Kitt Field, as the newly ranked Buffaloes (No. 19 USA Lacrosse, No. 20 IWLCA) are 3-0 to start the season. Madeline Pisani and Jess Peluso were both honored as Pac-12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as the Buffs won two road games at No. 14 Penn State and St. Joes last week.
