February 27, 2024 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER – University of Colorado junior guard KJ Simpson has been named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-America Watch List, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Simpson is one of 40 standout men's college basketball players selected by members of the association's board of directors for both honors.
A Pac-12 Conference Player of the Year candidate, this is the latest in an impressive line of honors for Simpson this season. He is one of 20 late-season watch list members for the 2023-24 John R. Wooden Award and one of 30 on the Naismith Trophy Men's Basketball Player of the Year Midseason Team. On Monday, Simpson was named Pac-12 Player of the Week after a dominating 28-point performance against Utah.
Simpson, a native of Panorama City, Calif., leads the Buffaloes averaging 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. He is one of only two players in major conferences to average at least 19-5-4 an outing and one of five in NCAA Division 1.
The 40 players considered for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, given to the USBWA's National Player of the Year, and All-America team will be placed on the association's annual awards ballot, which will be distributed to members on Tuesday. The 15-man USBWA All-America Team will be announced before the start of the men's NCAA Tournament while the Oscar Robertson Trophy winner will be announced at the NCAA Men's Final Four.
Colorado is 18-9 overall and tied for fourth in the Pac-12 at 9-7. The Buffaloes close out the home portion of their regular season schedule this week hosting California on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. (Pac-12 Network/850 AM & 94.1 FM KOA) and Stanford for Senior Night on Sunday, March 3, at 7 p.m. (FS1/850 AM & 94.1 FM KOA).
