March 04, 2024 | Lacrosse

BOULDER — Colorado lacrosses' Samantha Lipka has been named as one of the recipients for the CU Center of Leadership Student Leader of the Year award.

Lipka is a third-year player from Derwood, Maryland and is majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

The award highlights the impact of leadership education at CU Boulder. It recognizes outstanding students who are rewarded because of their exceptional work.

"We are fortunate to have a player and person like Sam in our program," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "Sam is constantly thinking of ways she can have more of an impact on our team and in the community here. She is committed to being the best she can be and helping those around her be their best. She cares about people, she is invested in people and in finding ways to constantly have a positive impact. This is a great recognition for all Sam does and I am so proud of her, and I hope she is able to see the true value in all she does. This award recognizes that value."

Those who are recognized as a Student Leader of the Year are also invited to attend a Chancellor's Reception in their honor. There were nine Student Leaders of the Year in 2023, and Sam is one of 15 others to receive the award this year.

The CU Boulder Student Leaders of the Year awards recognize those individuals participating in campus leadership programs who have demonstrated:

  • Academic excellence and curiosity
  • Extraordinary support to and innovation within campus leadership programs
