Buffs Travel West to Southern California for Pac-12 Tournament

April 29, 2024 | Lacrosse

BOULDER — The Colorado Buffaloes will head to Los Angeles, Calif. this week for the Pac-12 Conference Lacrosse Tournament, that will take place Wednesday, May 1 - Saturday, May 4. Games will be played on USC's campus, inside the Coliseum.

The Buffs enter the tournament as the no. 3 seed for the second consecutive year, and will take on no. 6 seed UC Davis Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. MDT. Colorado took down the Aggies on the road earlier in the season, in a dominant 17-7 win. Madeline Pisani and Ashley Stokes combined for 12 of the teams' 17 goals in that contest.

"We know it's one game at a time," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "We know we're capable of winning the whole thing, but at the same, it's going to be a challenge for us. So we have to do the little things right leading up. We got to be prepared for whoever we play on Wednesday. I think hopefully tomorrow night. We'll find that out. And just go one thing at a time, but stay focused on the opportunities we have and take advantage of them."

If CU were to win on Wednesday against UC Davis, they would play the tournament host no. 2 USC on Thursday night in a semi-final matchup. The tournament championship game is set to take place on Saturday afternoon. The Pac-12 Tournament bracket can be found here.

Colorado finished the season 11-5 overall, while boasting a 5-2 record in league play. They most recently took down Oregon 20-8 at home for senior night, before heading into postseason play.

Pisani has 56 goals through the team's 16 games, by far the most on the team and in the conference. She is the only Buff to score in every game this season and is averaging 3.50 goals per game, which would stand as highest single-season average in school history.

Stokes ends the regular season with 58 points (34 G, 24 A) while setting a new career-high with 34 goals. She finishes inside the top-7 in the conference for assists and points.

Jess Peluso is the only other Buff to lead the Pac-12 in another major statistical category, with 39 caused turnovers. She broke the single-season school record two games ago, and is on pace to be the only CU player to average 2.0 CTOs or more per game in a season.

Freshman Aidan Carr has tallied 87 draw controls on the year, which ranks fourth-most in the Pac-12 and fourth-most ever in a season by a Buff. She's recorded two games this season of 15 or more draw controls.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Colorado is a perfect 7-0 all-time against UC Davis, and will look to continue that streak on Wednesday night in round one of the Pac-12 Tournament.
