CU's all-time leader in 3-pointers set to add to record
BOULDER — Colorado guard Frida Formann announced on Instagram on Wednesday that she will be returning to the Buffaloes for her fifth and final season in 2024-25.
The post jointly released by Formann and the team was just a simple "I'm back," along with the caption, "I'm so grateful for the opportunity to play another year at CU. This place is truly special. See you next season, Buff Nation!"
Formann, an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection, started all 34 games and helped Colorado return to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season. She was third on the team in scoring, with a career-best 12.5 points per game. Formann also had career-highs in assists (70) and steals (37). The 3-point specialist tied Bianca Smith (2009-10) for the most 3-pointers made in a season, with 82, and set the all-time record at CU, men's and women's, with 260 career triples.
"We are so excited that Frida has decided to return for her fifth year," head coach JR Payne commented. "She is an incredible player, leader, and person, and I know that she will truly thrive in her fifth year in the place she loves."
The Bagsværd, Denmark, native opened the 2023-24 campaign with a career-high 27 points and tied the school record with seven 3-pointers in CU's win over then No. 1 LSU. She would match her scoring output later in the year with 27 points at Washington State. Formann fired off another seven 3-pointers to tie the record for a second time en route to a 23-point night against UT Arlington. She scored in double figures in 21 games and led the team to a 5-0 record when totaling 20 or more points this year.
Formann became the 34th player in CU history to hit 1,000 career points against Boston U (94th career game), finishing the season 18th on CU's career points list with 1,326.
The sharpshooter posted a top-10 3-point field goal percentage, finishing the year hitting 42.1% (82-195) from behind the arc. Formann sits fifth in program history, hitting 37.7% from long distance. This season, she was also stellar from the free-throw line, recording just the second free-throw percentage above 90.0 in team history (90.1). She currently ranks third all-time at CU with an 84.8 free-throw percentage (178-210).
Formann will have a shot next season to overtake teammate Jaylyn Sherrod for the most starts in program history. Formann has 104 career starts, 29 behind Sherrod's program record of 133.
Formann and the Buffs will usher in a new era next season, shifting back into the Big 12 Conference.
