Abrahamsson, Koch Named Academic All-Americans
July 19, 2024 | Skiing
BOULDER – Hanna Abrahamsson was named the CSC Academic All-American At-Large Team Member of the Year after being named a first-team Academic All-American, and Will Koch was named second-team Academic All-American, as College Sports Communicators released the national at-large teams this week.Â
Abrahamsson is the first CU student-athlete named the Academic All-American of the year for any sport or the at-large team. Â She repeats as an Academic All-American, earning second-team honors in 2023 and she is just the third repeat Academic All-American in CU ski team history. Â She has a 3.83 cumulative grade point average majoring in Engineering Physics and is just the third skier in CU history and first women's skier to earn first-team honors alongside Matt Gelso in 2010 and Andreas Haug in 2014.
A three-time letterwinner, Abrahamsson finished all 13 races this season, finishing in the top 20 in 12 of the 13 with seven top-10 and five top five finishes including two podiums and one race win, taking the 20K classic race at the CU Invitational and finishing fourth in the same race at the NCAA Championships, earning first-team All-America honors.
Koch picked up his first Academic All-American honor being named to the second team. Â He is the 10th skier in CU history to earn Academic All-America honors and the seventh (eighth honor) to earn second-team or higher. Â
A four-time letterwinner, Koch finished all 11 races he took place in this season in the top 10 and was in the top five seven times including four podium appearances and his first collegiate race victory, which doubled as the U.S. National Championship, which he won in a freestyle sprint race at Soldier Hollow. Â He was a two-time first-team All-American on the slopes, finishing fourth in the 7.5k freestyle race and third in the 20k classic race. Â
Both Abrahamsson and Koch's efforts at the 2024 NCAA Ski Championships helped propel the Buffaloes to the program's first National Championship in nine years and 21st in school history. Â The Buffs came back from the second-largest final-day deficit in NCAA ski history to win by the closest margin of the modern scoring era, just two points. Â
Both skiers will return for the 2025 season.Â
