Colorado Lacrosse Adds Nine Buffs to 2025 Roster

BOULDER ā The Colorado lacrosse team welcomes the addition of eight freshmen and one transfer to the 2024-25 roster, head coach Ann Elliott Whidden announced Monday, July 22.

The Buffs' octet of first-year players includes Addison Brower (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley HS), Amelia Byerly (Naples, Fla./Phillips Exeter Academy), Blaine Cosby (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton HS), Anna Hoover (Blue Bell, Pa./The Lawrenceville School), Jenna Morley (West Chester, Pa./The Episcopal Academy), Elena Oh (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill HS), Phoebe Rogala (Denver, Colo./Regis Jesuit HS), and Briley Volpp (Encinitas, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS). Colorado will also welcome graduate student attacker Kendall Havill (Bainbridge, Wash./Bainbridge HS) from Colorado College.

"I am really excited about welcoming this 2024 class to Colorado," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "This is a great group that is going to bring a lot to our program from day one. We cover most positions within this group, but each player is very versatile and can add a lot to our team in different ways. I expect this group to compete from day one and challenge our team to continue to take that next step forward. We are so excited about the depth they will add to our team, something that is crucial as we continue to compete for conference championships and into NCAAs."

Two-time IWLCA All-American Kendall Havill comes to CU after playing her undergraduate career at Colorado College. The transfer attacker led her team in goals in both her junior and senior seasons with 59 and 93 goals respectively. As a senior, Havill was named WIAC Offensive Player of the Year and was a four-time WIAC Offensive Player of the Week (Mar. 26, April 2, April 23, April 30). On top of her 93 goals in the 2024 season, Havill totaled 115 points, 22 assists, 39 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers.

Amelia Byerly is an incoming midfielder from Naples, Fla. and attended Phillips Exeter Academy. She won her high school's Triple Crown Award in 2021 for playing three varsity sports (lacrosse, volleyball and basketball), and she is a two-time All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention (2022, 2024). As a two-time captain of her high school lacrosse team, she was named to the Collier County All-County First Team (2021) and the Southwest Florida All-Region First Team (2021). Byerly also competed for Team Israel in the 2023 Women's Lacrosse U21 European Championship, and she will travel to Hong Kong in August to play for Team Israel in the World Lacrosse 2024 Women's U20 Championship.

Elena Oh, an incoming goalie, is from Chapel Hill, N.C. and went to East Chapel Hill High School. Though she has only played lacrosse for three years, Oh was named to the DAC-VII All-Conference Team three times (2022, 2023, 2024), earned DAC-VII Conference Specialist of the Year in 2022 and DAC-VII Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. She was also a member of the North Carolina All-Region East First Team three times (2022, 2023, 2024), named to the NC All-State Second Team twice (2022, 2023), and a part of the NC All-State First Team in 2024. Oh will also compete in the World Lacrosse 2024 Women's U20 Championship for Team Korea.

Addison Brower, a 2024 USA Lacrosse All-American, is from Danville, Calif. and graduated from San Ramon Valley High School. In her high school career, she totaled 137 goals, 47 assists, 68 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers ā six of those goals came in once match against Sacred Heart Prep. Brower also helped her team to win back-to-back California NCS Championships (2023, 2024), and she was named to the 2024 EBAL All-League First Team and is an Adrenaline All-American. Brower's older sister, Caity, is also a goalie for Colorado lacrosse and is entering her junior season.

Three-time Inter-Academic League Champion and Pennsylvania PAISSA State Champion, Jenna Morley, comes to CU from the Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, Pa. She achieved All Inter-Academic League First Team as a senior and Second Team as a junior, and she earned 2024 USA Lacrosse All-America laurels. A recipient of the Episcopal Academy Defender Award in her senior season, Morley comes from a lacrosse family with her mother, father and sister having all played lacrosse. In addition to lacrosse, Morley also competed in field hockey and track and field.

Out of Encinitas, Calif. and a Cathedral Catholic High School graduate, 2024 Western League Player of the Year Briley Volpp finished her high school career with 250 goals, 72 assists, 322 points, 369 ground balls, 366 draw controls and 124 caused turnovers. She helped her team to the 2023 Open Division CIF-SDS Finals and to win back-to-back Western League Championships in 2023 and 2024. She is a three-time USA Lacrosse All-American, Adrenaline All-American and has been on the All-State CIF-SDS First Team three times.

Hoover is from Blue Bell, Penn. and competed in lacrosse and field hockey at The Lawrenceville School. A NJISSA All-State Prep A First Team selection and named to the CJFHCA First Team, she helped her team to four-peat MAPL League Champions and Mercer County Champions (2021-2024). Hoover was also named to the MAPL Lacrosse Second Team and played club lacrosse for Reign Elite Lacrosse Club. In her club career, she was named to the Under Armour All-America Philly Command Team (2020, 2021) and notched Under Armour All-America New Jersey Highlight.

A freshman from Alexandria, Va., Blaine Cosby is a three-time All-Conference First Team selection and a four-time All-State Team selection. Cosby played lacrosse and tennis at Bishop Ireton High School and led her team in assists in the 2024 season. She also received the Bishop Ireton Cardinal Award and was named Lacrosse MVP in her senior season, and she was a member of the National Honor Society and Nation Spanish Honor Society.

Phoebe Rogala is from Denver, Colo. and is a two-time Aurora Sentinel All-Aurora selection (2023, 2024). After helping her team to finish second at the Colorado 5A State Championship, Rogala was named to both the All-Class 5A East League First Team and the CHSAA 5A All-State Second Team. She ended her career at Regis Jesuit High School having played 56 total games and notched 90 goals, 57 assists, 147 points, 96 draw controls, 88 ground balls and caused 76 turnovers. Rogala also competed in basketball, cross country and flag football, and was a member of ASL Club, Diversity Action Group and Key Club at Regis Jesuit.

In 2024, the Buffs (13-6, 5-2 Pac-12) came in second in the Pac-12 conference after falling to Stanford, 11-8, in the Pac-12 Championship match. Colorado ended the season ranked 20th in the USA Lacrosse poll and 22nd in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. Senior attacker Madeline Pisani and sophomore defender Jess Peluso were both earned USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mentions at the end of the 2024 season, and four Buffs were chosen for the All-Pac-12 Team. The Buffs are coached by 10th-year head coach Ann Elliott Whidden (98-53, .649), who was named IWLCA West/Midwest Region Coach of the Year (2017 and '18), was the 2018 Pac-12 Coach of the Year and 2017 MPSF Coach of the Year.
